Ex LNER (and Grand Central) Mark 4 sets for TfW

Yep squeezed onto the 1749, left people behind at Newport and now in a taxi from Shrewsbury onto the Cambrian coast as had missed the bus connecting into the final train

Yeah and I'd just let the delayed 1649 go too

Amazing, thanks a lot. Hopefully it does make it!

Ex LNER (and Grand Central) Mark 4 sets for TfW

Does anyone know if there's any chance of a MkIV set being fixed today on Canton ready for 1W96 1714 Cardiff to Holyhead? 150280 started that diagram this morning on the 0648 Cardiff Holyhead.

Ex LNER (and Grand Central) Mark 4 sets for TfW

Thanks. Minor irritation from me that the 1530 from Manchester arrives Newport 1836 in the public timetable but 1834 1/2 in the working timetable. If the public arrival time was 1835 it would be a valid connection into the 1840 Portsmouth harbour train. It does annoy me somewhat that TfW and ATW...

Will the Sunday diagrams start this Sunday? And any ideas on which services they will run/start from?

How well are they getting 3 sets out in service each day? And how many in total have had the SDO mods.now?

    UK Rail Passenger Numbers Discussion

Agreed Fuel duty is quite a high rate of tax and effectively is a distance based tax too, because the more miles you drive more petrol you buy so more tax paid. How the government replaces that tax income particularly for electric cars is a future debate for not just funding roads but also the...

Reduced frequency of Cross-Country services from Bournemouth to Manchester?

Don't they often have 4 minute dwells at Stafford so hardly a deal breaker

    UK Rail Passenger Numbers Discussion

It's worth noting that the revenue and journey figures are against 77% train kilometres from 3 years ago and 81% vehicle kilometres. Therefore 73% passenger journeys isn't nearly as bad comparing against 100%. What I'm trying to say (not sure I'm doing it well) is that some cuts have already...

First Class signage on TPE 802 units

Some Hitachi units I've seen a 1 on the door, which I think is the clearest identifier and GWR have the silver line above the carriage too

Avanti West Coast Rolling Stock Updates

Was that Norther WCML upgrade also for the eventual HS2 trains? If so it could be a while in planning and completion

CAF class 197 Civity for TfW: News and updates on introduction.

Manchester to Bangor was planned to be 3 car all day, with 5car in the peaks I think from the Dec23 proposal. I don't think they're going to Llandudno anymore

Reduced frequency of Cross-Country services from Bournemouth to Manchester?

There is a lot of swap over at reading heading north, when I've used them, generally they seem equally busy north and south of reading as in standing. Worst I've seen is Sundays even with double sets.

Reduced frequency of Cross-Country services from Bournemouth to Manchester?

Very few Newcastle readings in the timetable so capacity south of Birmingham will be much reduced. Also the current capacity from Southampton/Bournemouth north is terrible. After morning doubles up to 1015 from Southampton Central the 12:15 and 14:15 both singles. 16:15 is double but only going...

CAF class 197 Civity for TfW: News and updates on introduction.

Why can't the two remains turns go to Holyhead? Is it because they then interwork with Birmingham/Cardiff diagrams?

Ex LNER (and Grand Central) Mark 4 sets for TfW

Seems to be 2 or 3 sets out in service this week. Both days when 3 sets in service the diagram starting with 1V31 on the 0454 Crewe to Cardiff was used. Is this to keep an eye on a set and base it at Crewe? I'm unsure as to how many diagrams were planned to be operated at this point and if any...

    May 2023 changes

I've been on a couple of single sets from Southampton as not all are doubles on the current near two hourly to Bournemouth and when not stopping at brockenhurst there were seats at Southampton Central but after that people were standing, some at reading got seats as there was a fair churn but...

    May 2023 changes

0645, 1145, 1445, 1543 and 1744. Some useful trains but also a large morning gap north from Reading. I'm assuming that would be the above trains from Reading I mentioned since only the two services to/from Banbury via Solihull are in the current timetable

    May 2023 changes

Also a return to hourly Bournemouth to Manchester rather than 2hourly curtailments at Reading. Does mean they shall all be single sets due to interworking at Manchester. Seems mostly a return to precovid times finally. But not quite full half hourly between reading and Birmingham yet
