yup - i think tfgm are being good here by including it in zone 1/2 because you dont penalise those travelling to salford quays offices from south of the city..

Must it not be something to do with the origin code? You can't buy to Manchester central zone from stations outside of GM only Manchester stations.

Yes you could, but youve done your sums wrong - a zone 5-1 travelcard is over 2000GBP in itself. You could save money but possibly lose your sanity by going Oxted-East Croydon-New Cross Gate-Canada Water-Canary Wharf and avoid going via zone 1 to save you a few quid. You will need the zone 1...

If you are going less than a week, you might also use some of the tourist tickets (also available from the TVM). They are available in 4 days versions which are useful.
