Caught short-faring from Edge Hill on Wavertree to Liverpool journey, what can I say?

You've not read the thread properly have you? This is about asking for a ticket from Edge Hill station when the OP boarded one stop further back at Wavertree Technology Park which is short-faring the railway. How you can conclude this was a completely genuine mistake is beyond me.

Why I believe Penalty Fares can be unfair

Penalty fares are not there for those suspected of deliberate fare evasion, they are in place for those who make an honest mistake. The bye-laws and Regulation of Railways Act are in place for those who are suspected of committing an offence, anyone handed a penalty fare is not suspected of...

    Son inadvertently purchased child ticket

This isn't going to go down well with many people and I'm not proud of it but when I was 16/17 I used to very deliberately buy child tickets from ticket machines. You have to make a conscious decision to buy a child ticket from a machine rather than an adult one. I looked young enough to get...

Stopped for non payment - likely outcome?

I must first ask, was this genuinely your first time into Manchester Victoria station? Just to check, I don't doubt your story for one moment though. PFY = Poulton Le Fylde - I presume, Whalley is near Clitheroe? I have not been at Manchester Vic (MCV) in a while, but I am aware there have been...

Ukip Want Employers to be able to discriminate in favour of British workers

I came to Thailand because I could NOT get a job in the UK after leaving University. Judging by the amount of fellow people I known who left Uni last year who are in work, I'm quite sure I made the correct decision. Out here I am actually working and doing something productive! I may take a...

    Cricket

South Africa 148/3 after 30 overs. Not bad huh? South Africa 258/3 after 40 overs South Africa 408/5 after 50 overs. Brutal, absolutely brutal. They hit 260 off the final 20 (bear in mind the highest T20 score is only 263!) with AB De Villiers smashing the quickest ever World Cup Century (52...

    Cricket

Afghanistan beat Scotland by three balls and a wicket to spare. They were 96/6 after 22 overs. Needed 38 off their last 4 overs, their top scorer hit 3 sixes in a row then got out to leave Afghans on 192/9. They kept their cool and put away a boundary needing 4 from 4 to win it. Afghanistan's...

    Football

In the middle of a nice 10 hour day and would usually look forward to following the football at 10pm but chances are I'll be too tired and its Derby County away for my Sheffield Wednesday. We don't score goals and we definitely do not beat Derby. Looks like I'll have a game tomorrow after work...

    Prosecution Threat

If you genuinely felt this way, you'd have mentioned it in your original post. Having said that, I never cease to be amazed by the amount of people who come on here asking for advice then always end up pointing towards an RPI 'being unprofessional', 'rude' etc when the said person is facing up...

Same here, I find no party nor politician really represents me at all. If only we had a British Ron Paul :)

5 Horses killed by Northern trains today

Oh don't worry, it wouldn't surprise me in the faintest if it is travellers. I was just getting the 'where does it say that' comment before someone else did :p

5 Horses killed by Northern trains today

Yeah and where does it say that 'travellers' owned the horses? :s

Will I get a criminal record? Please Help

Which is pretty much the same thing as I said the post above that  And Northern's new failure to purchase/'penalty fare' scheme means they are even less likely to be prosecuting.

Will I get a criminal record? Please Help

I wouldn't take it like that, Northern will more than likely accept an offer to settle this out of court. Take this on board... train companies don't receive the proceeds of a fine that a court would give you, but they do receive all the proceeds of an out of court settlement. Its not the end...

Will I get a criminal record? Please Help

I wouldn't lose any sleep over it, it shouldn't ruin your life. Take the advice given by other posters. Worse things can happen while at Uni as I know from experience! Try having hard drive failure on your laptop with six weeks of third year left with no back-up of the work done :D

Train Travel in Thailand and Vietnam

I use the red buses 5 days a week to get to work, its only a 3 minute journey (or 10 in traffic!). I should in theory pay 65 baht a week for 5 return journeys (6.5 baht x 10) but half of them are free, and many of my journeys (particularly to work!) are often free.

    St Erth-Macclesfield Fare advice please

If I understand it correctly: £42 on the way back for 2 people and £74 on the way there for 2 people? Total of £114 for 2 people, which is £57 each? I think that's fairly decent considering the length of journey. Happy to stand corrected though.
