    Football

I don't care who we get in the quarter finals, we'll give anyone a game. I do my very best to follow every single Sheffield Wednesday game even with the 8 hour time difference. Last night's game kicked off at 3:45am, and by the time I'd calmed down, it was 6:10 before I got into bed and a few...

Which industries/businesses should be bailed out by Govt?

Elephant in the room, state aid is against EU rules. Something no one wants to mention, and would rather avoid. So they just blame the Tories because the media can't be bothered/don't want to tell the truth about how much legislation at European level hinders our own democratically elected...

Dates on which pre-booked off-peak tickets may be used.

I don't understand why people do this, buy walk-up tickets in advance. I could understand if you needed to buy a ticket in advance in order to get a place on the train as is the case on most Taiwanese trains but it makes no difference in the UK at all when you buy Off Peak or Anytime tickets.

Wearing of ID Cards at school/college?

We were supposed to wear them at 6th form. At one point I lost mine and didn't have one for 3 months! At University we were issued with them but just supposed to have them on our person, needed to enter the library but didn't have to wear them.

Spanish and Japanese fare collection/seat reservations.

Same on the High Speed Rail in Taiwan, and when you purchase a ticket from the machine you get a choice of Reserved or Non Reserved. When buying with an immediate departure there is a board showing if there are reservations available on the next couple of trains. There are only 3 non reserved...

    Taiwan - where to travel?

Been to Taipei, may try one of the branches or more. Just wondering if there any particular spots worth doing, could just head to Hualien for the 3 days.

    Taiwan - where to travel?

Hi all I'm now living in Taiwan but haven't much idea about the rail system here. Got a three day weekend coming up and was looking at getting a TR Pass to either do a bit of bashing or travel around a bit. Any recommendations and ideas? I've only used the HSR here which is extremely...

    London to Southend

I used a ticket to Prittlewell when I went to Southend. I used it out via Fenchurch Street to Southend Central and used a walk to complete the journey, and back into Liverpool Street from Prittlewell. I'm not exactly sure how I did it, I think it was a return from London Terminals to...

    northern rail debt recovery prosecutions

Nothing else? How do you expect advice when you don't want to provide any details as to what happened? There are a ton of threads on here related to Northern Rail if you search. I can't see you getting many replies until you reply with any more information.

Coping with hot weather at work

I worked in catering throughout my teenage years, in all black and I refused to wear short sleeved shirts. I still don't wear short sleeved shirts where I am now, much prefer long sleeves and prevents sunburn anyway. Gone 11pm here in Bangkok and my 16 inch fan is on full still, and will...

Coping with hot weather at work

I don't mind the heat, which funnily enough is the complete opposite of me in the UK. I used to hide from it. Here, I don't mind it. I just don't like sweating and what it does to your skin, I've had more spots at 22 than I ever did in my teens. I work in a mall which is pretty good, also...

Coping with hot weather at work

Apparently a heatwave this week in the UK, I live in one. This is my 250th day in Thailand, I've known it dip below 27C twice in the day and I have known it be 23-24C at night and believe me that is cold. I think the average high in April was over 37C, including a week of 37-40C, one day got...

Teenagers are choosing to study over Saturday jobs, new report suggests

I graduated last year and have ended up out of the UK, quite happy to never return now. I look back on my University days, and I'm happy with how it turned out. My problem was always routine and the more work I had to, generally the better I did. My first year, it was worth 10% and we had...

Coping with hot weather at work

My workplace is air-conditioned, so when you step out outside for a break or to go home it can be like walking into a furnace. I drink water as often as possible at work and out of it, easily drink 2.5-3 litres a day. At home I was using air-con in the summer, but invested in a fan and it paid...

Why do some people queue rather than use a TVM?

If you making a journey by train you should know where you want to go/when if you are returning. We have to accept in the UK there are different restrictions for different tickets, that's life because of the way things are structured. It doesn't take 5 minutes on BRFares.com to find what ticket...

Why do some people queue rather than use a TVM?

I prefer using the machines. I can use them as let's be honest they are not that difficult to use! In the UK, I would not not go into a station without knowing exactly what ticket I need and can approach a TVM and be away in seconds provided the touch-screen is working fine. It doesn't take long...

Advance tickets but I got stars rather than seat reservations?

If you have reservations on both trains you should have to use them, although a 6 minute connection at MKC seems plain daft. If you missed the Manchester Picc train due to delays to the first train you would be allowed to catch the next one

    Going to London... confusion.

No, but in any case you should be leaving yourself adequate time to make the trip to Euston. If I had a train at say 1:00pm from Euston, I'd want to be arriving no later than 12:30pm to account for any delays on the connecting journey.
