Supposed Euston - Glasgow sleeper summer 1991, identification of formation

Were there pure motorail trains as late as the summer of 1991 though?

Did BR Miss a Trick With Steam Locos

Union Pacific in the US has one steam locomotive that never officially retired from service (although it was stored for some time), and is still used to run steam specials to this day

    Liverpool-Birmingham and beyond/Scottish services in the 80s/early 90s

The first Mk3 DVTs were delivered in March 1989, according to Wikipedia. I'd guess trains would be pretty much fully "DVTized" by 1990-91?

    Liverpool-Birmingham and beyond/Scottish services in the 80s/early 90s

So 245 is the standard XC rake, 315 in the Brighton trains likely two TSOs extra? 385 seems to be the standard 87/90-Mk3-DVT rakes. I see the sleepers are timed at E595, these were longer than 13 cars I think given they at this point still had both seats and motorail?

    Liverpool-Birmingham and beyond/Scottish services in the 80s/early 90s

From 1991/92 WTT: Northbound First there's a service from Birmingham 0655 to Glasgow, timed at E245, so a standard XC Mk2 rake Next service seems to be Liverpool at 0907 to Edinburgh, timed D245 so presumably diesel throughout A service from Paddington at 0800 to Edinburgh, timed D245 to...

    Liverpool-Birmingham and beyond/Scottish services in the 80s/early 90s

XC got HSTs in late 1991, after the ECML electrification completed and IC225 rakes were fully operative. Wessex Scot was among the XCs that went HST at this point.

Is there anything that would prevent running conventional loco hauled Berne gauge passenger trains into St Pancras over HS1?

The Nightstar coaches weren't built to UIC gauge though, they were AFAIK based on Mk4 bodyshells, so both shorter, narrower and lower than standard UIC-based coaches

Is there anything that would prevent running conventional loco hauled Berne gauge passenger trains into St Pancras over HS1?

Didn't French "Broken Nose" electrics run freight trains thru the Chunnel while SNCF were awaiting their part of the Class 92s?

Is there anything that would prevent running conventional loco hauled Berne gauge passenger trains into St Pancras over HS1?

AFAIK the HS1 (former CTRL) is built to Berne gauge (UIC gauge), and can operate conventional trains in addition to Eurostars. Is there anything that would prevent a service using conventional loco hauled stock to UIC gauge operating into St Pancras thru the tunnel?

Potential future uses of DBCargo Class 90s?

How many 90s do Freightliner have, and are any of theirs operative (wasn't there some rumour that Freightliner was sidelining all electrics due to prices of electricity vs diesel)?

Larissa, Greece: Freight train collides with passenger train (01/03/2023)

Just makes this even more horrific really. It was logic to assume that the dark blue loco was the freight train's loco, as it'd have been travelling slower, and taken less damage, and the other one the passenger loco, being quite seriously damaged due to the higher speed. Of course, with the...

Larissa, Greece: Freight train collides with passenger train (01/03/2023)

Have you seen the photo showing both the wrecked locos? I'd think even a journalist would be able to figure out that it'd be extremely unlikely for any driver to have survived, and therefore have the sense not to mention it.

Larissa, Greece: Freight train collides with passenger train (01/03/2023)

Two passenger cars "disintegrated", according to media reports, one is seen in photos overturned and totally burnt. Both locos are obviously total write-offs, going by the photos the loco from the passenger train is almost totally crushed. Several container cars are also obviously heavily...
