Right, I thought the whole of the Cornish Main Line was double track. So only London - Plymouth is continuous double track then? Or is it only to Exeter?
Both the ECML and WCML are continuous double track (or more tracks) from London to Glasgow/Edinburgh, and a fair amount of the lines in the west and south are, including the GWML of course. But how far does double track extend north of Edinburgh/Glasgow? Can you go from Penzance to Inverness on...
Trainsets that were originally purchased for use in Wisconsin, US. Looks like they have only one HST powercar, and the regular US Talgo cab car at the other and, based on this picture from Wikipedia...
The line has a max speed of 160 km/h according to German Wikipedia: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bahnstrecke_Ulm%E2%80%93Sigmaringen
The speed on that particular stretch though, may of course be lower.
Doesn't look like the train jack-knifed, which often is the case in this type of collision, and I don't think these ICEs have Jacobs boggies? Either just extreme stroke of luck, or very low speed impact?
I'm having trouble interpreting the second photo from the top, but it looks like the entire front cone has fallen off the ICE (which means it's an ICE-3?)?
Track 11a was the short stub track between the tracks 10 and 11 that long distance trains used, and the Ayr/Inverclyde tracks. But how was this track actually used in regular traffic? I've seen photos from the 80s with locos parked there, and photos from the final years before the track was...
The original plan for the Class 320s was to put them in service on the Argyle line, but as we know they instead ended up on North Clyde. How would the stock cascade have been if the 320s had entered service on the Argyle line as intended? 314s to Inverclyde in stead of 318s? Or 314s to Catchart...
SJ Nord have made a deal with Nordic Refinance to hire/lease two ex-Danish ME. The locos will need "preparation" - likely adding stuff like door control, changing HEP, improved ploughs, possibly a general overhaul.
Rumour says:
-The Røros line will get solely Talbot Talent (Type 93) DMUs in the trains that do not run over the entire line
-The daytime Trondheim - Bodø trains will be run with bimodal Flirt MUs (Type 76)
-Night trains will continue as before
What most people expected, has now been confirmed: The Di4 loco, and the two B5 coaches that derailed, will be stripped of usable spares, and then scrapped. The other B5s will be repaired. In the meantime work is still ongoing on the railway line past the derailment site, to secure against...
The highway will open tomorrow morning. The railway is still in need of a lot of work, including being secured against more rockfalls, and of course repair of the track infrastructure.
Currently, while the line is still blocked, the trains run Trondheim - Mosjøen using a Class 76 bimodal MU (Stadler Flirt). Night trains are cancelled altogether. Some trains run Bodø - Mo i Rana with Class 93 DMUs. Stock that is captive in Bodø is one Di4, one rake of B5 coaches, two sleeping...
