    TPE trainee drivers

I don't think a guard, even a driver like myself would know what TPE pass requirements are, 95% is pretty high. It's true they do assess qualified drivers, I myself had to redo a scat test, listening exercise and fault reporting exercise, before I got to a management interview. The positions are...

    New Driver Assessments - Beware

So can you honestly say, if someone has a higher % pass mark than another person, its wrong for them not to go for the candidate with that higher percentage ? And its not about TPE not accepting Northerns standards, as a ex Northern driver, I know this. But when a Northern driver applies for a...

    New Driver Assessments - Beware

No that is where you are wrong, of course train driving is as important, be it Northern, TPE, East Coast, XC, Virgin, wherever, but when TPE has only a limited number of vacancies, with a huge amount of interest, they can choose whoever they think suits best. If they decide to set a benchmark...

    New Driver Assessments - Beware

What's so special is that they will be paying successful candidates on completion of training a great wage for doing a important job. Remember the amount of candidates applying will be very high for very limited positions, only 1 position in some depots, they can be picky if they want to be. If...

Good enough for northern but not TPE!!

I made the move as I knew I would be stopping less in a week, than a day at Northern, some Northern Dockets had 80+ stops a day, compared to maybe 20 at TPE. Then there is the traction, it really is hitting its sell by date, and Northern don't seem to like spending any money, maybe a lick of...

    First Group and Northern Rail

I have worked for FNW, then Northern Rail, and now FTPE, and much prefer it over here at TPE

Good enough for northern but not TPE!!

I drove for Northern Rail for 8 years before moving to TPE last year, my traction card was 142, 144, 150/1/2, 153, 155, 156, 158. None of these compare in comparison to a 185, in 12 months I have never had a 185 fail on me, 142's have a awful failure rate, along with 150. 185 is like a Mercedes...

    Job Interview with Northern Rail

I was a conductor with Northern, based at Man Vic from 2000-2005 formerly FNW, until I went driving with them, now at TPE. Everyone at Man Vic are really nice and you will join a great railway family if you are based at Vic. No one looks down at anyone and you will always be offered help, may...

    Class 180's to.....Northern?

Nothing mentioned at all about anything being long or short term. I only know that 180's are coming ( traction user guides have arrived at Vic), it is only Manchester Victoria drivers who are to have traction training on them. Three are coming soon, once modifications are done on them so guards...

    Class 180's to.....Northern?

I myself am a driver at Victoria, and I have been informed from higher than me that they are indeed running express to Huddersfield at peak times. Also been told that 3 units are coming and possibly a chance of 3 more next year, but the latter is not guaranteed as yet.

    Class 180's to.....Northern?

Capacity can be an issue, for Northern. We will see what happens when they arrive, issues to be sorted first I believe.

    Class 180's to.....Northern?

That's all that has been said at Vic, me I know nothing about either unit, so I can't say. At first it was mentioned how the line speed after Standedge is 85mph, but if that was the case, 158's could do the job.

    Class 180's to.....Northern?

Trust me they are coming, the only hold up at the moment is something to do with the doors being opened by the driver, which is not part our agreement with Northern, and something the guards will not be happy about.

    Class 180's to.....Northern?

This is something to do with Virgin and their new timetable, how Buxton trains will operate, I do not know, obviously they will still have a service to Manchester. --- old post above --- --- new post below --- Again, not sure of exact details, but have been told that the 180's will be put on...

    Class 180's to.....Northern?

The source comes direct from Manchester Victoria since I am a driver there. --- old post above --- --- new post below --- From December Blackpool will no longer go through to Buxton, they are being diverted through Manchester Victoria to Huddersfield. This is to free up space South of...

    Class 180's to.....Northern?

Northern Rail are indeed getting 3 Class 180 units. They are to Run on Huddersfield - Blackpool via Manchester Victoria. These services start in December and I am pretty sure that the 180's will run from Dec also.
