    Cheltenham Racecourse connection?

35mins was from there to Cheltenham Spa not somewhere else. All these people driving to Cheltenham Spa to commute to Birmingham need an alternative and a railway station in a built up area with good onward connections rarely fails.

    Worcestershire Parkway station progress

If you want to declare mk3s not to your taste fine, but there needs to be an alternative other than continue muddling through. They are far better than much other stock that will be around for years to come.

    Worcestershire Parkway station progress

Bristol Parkway is surrounded by dense housing suburbs and close to major employers of national scale, as well as a large shopping centre. Tiverton or East Midlands would be more realistic.

    Worcestershire Parkway station progress

There is virtually no local population even in cycling radius. The projected modal share was always about 95% private car, 2% taxi and the rest because they had to somehow fiddle the figures to justify putting on a token bus.

    Worcestershire Parkway station progress

With a train service to Worcester every hour and no settlement of any note for 10 miles in any direction, except Worcester itself, they would have to pay £4.60 before seeing much uptake.

    Worcestershire Parkway station progress

If the powers that be really believed that, they wouldn't be building car parks in fields miles from anywhere. Planning, housing and infrastructure is now beholden to the model of the outer suburbs, out of town shopping, out of town public services, car parks and parkways.

RMT dispute with NR over Automatic Route Setting (ARS), but what are details ?

Given its tendency to try and route passenger trains down goods loops I suspect not!

    Cheltenham Racecourse connection?

Lots of housing right next to the line and lots of room for more. Churchdown to Cheltenham Spa is about 35mins by public transport, would be about 5 by rail. All those rail heading commuters are coming from somewhere. Fancy building housing around public transport infrastructure. All too rare...

    Worcestershire Parkway station progress

Said franchise was not long ago refurbishing said rolling stock. Is there anyone out there who doesn't think they are short? If we can afford to scrap perfectly good trains, someone should be solving these problems.

    Worcestershire Parkway station progress

Cross Country needed more stock 10 years ago. Unfortunately transport planning has become toxified by North vs South identity politics while rakes of mk3s are quietly despatched for scrap.

    Oxfordshire rail corridor study

If you mandate electrification on every new line, all that will happen is fewer schemes will make the business case and the available funds will be burned through quicker. In the not too distant future private cars and public buses will be zero emission at the tailpipe and the technological...

    Cheltenham Racecourse connection?

More planning failure. The poor location of Spa station means even people coming from the centre will drive to it. But the biggest problem is the colossal out of town housing development at Bishops Cleeve and the congestion getting from there to the centre, not what is happening at Spa. A...

RMT dispute with NR over Automatic Route Setting (ARS), but what are details ?

Sounds like a blame game then. Leave ARS on, let it hold trains 10mins outside an empty platform and blame the system. Having said that you should have a way to override one train not all or nothing but the whole thing isn't really fit for purpose.

Poor GWR Marketing of Improved Services - M4 Congestion.

There are plenty of examples of bus and train timetables being coordinated. The idea that doing so between the same owning group is somehow illegal and anti-corrosive smells like a conspiracy theory. A bus from Weston to Burnham probably takes all afternoon?

Poor GWR Marketing of Improved Services - M4 Congestion.

What you are illustrating is planning failure. So much employment, retail and leisure is out of town it is very difficult for any public transport network even in London to service more than one of those links, let alone all the the whole series.

Poor GWR Marketing of Improved Services - M4 Congestion.

The government should not be providing loss-making links to new out of town housing sprawling across greenfields far and wide. The housing needs to be built around existing infrastructure and existing routes integrated between modes - the impossibility of serving places like Burnham on Sea...

The biggest issues in Rail and how to solve them. University Product Design

How about a way of getting a passenger seat that is both 'comfortable' and meets the challenging crash worthiness and fire resistance standards? There are probably lots around track maintenance relating to extending asset life and monitoring their condition without visual and disruptive...

RMT dispute with NR over Automatic Route Setting (ARS), but what are details ?

True, but not really applicable to Reading Platforms 8/9 which are directly opposite.

RMT dispute with NR over Automatic Route Setting (ARS), but what are details ?

Avoiding congestion means minimising occupancy of the conflict point. For example at a terminus bringing the inbound trains in with minimal checks. What often happens in many places is the inbound trains are held on the approaches causing queues that take ages to get moving while the outbounds...

RMT dispute with NR over Automatic Route Setting (ARS), but what are details ?

Is there nobody who will change it? Class of train x,y,z not permitted on route a doesn't sound like rocket science? You often see trains held up where it appears ARS (or the signaller) won't re-platform into empty space which is frustrating if the platform was only added at great expense a few...
