Isn't that half the problem with Castlefield Corridor though - that it's a regional rail network trying to fill a gap that should really be filled by Metrolink? If Oxford Rd didn't exist in the first place, that University/Rusholme corridor would probably have been one of the first candidates...

That'd make sense if the Northern trains were longer, but they're shorter and thanks to Northern procuring mere 3 or 4-coach trains, they will continue to be shorter for a generation. I do feel sorry for TPE, who are the victims of Northern & DfT's inadequacy.
