Anybody who's slowly jerked around the Farrington Curve to the sound of a fingersnails-across-blackboard squeal would nominate anything other than a 142.
On wet days you also get leaky windows.
Was recently trying to sus what language the PA announcement at Manchester Piccadilly was in (Welsh?, Polish?).
After listening a bit harder, I realised it was English, spoken by a Geordie.
I'm going to be working at various locations in the Black Country over the next few months.
Thought I might stay in Brum and travel out and about by train, but was quite shocked to see how badly served that area is by rail.
No wonder it's a congestion black-spot.
What's happening with the 185s that these are replacing?
Presuming just increasing the length of other 185 services?
Ended up standing all the way from Piccadilly to Doncaster on a 3-car 185 a few weeks back, en route to Grimsby.
Last time I used these platforms a couple of weeks ago, the info displayed on those boards about the order in which trains were arriving at p14 bore no relation to the order that they did actually arrive and depart.
(incidentally, one of the northbound trains used p13, which I've never seen before).
Should be noted however that no Preston trains stop at Clifton, Farnsworth, Kearsley or Moses Gate (& haven't for as long as I can remember), only Wigan & Clitheroe trains stop at these.
Incidentally various stations on Clitheroe line have very short platforms - 4-car 156s can only open doors on...
Noticed that Drax are advocating the reopening of Colne to Skipton for this purpose:

Earlier this year, I travelled on a 156 from Carlisle to Newcastle which had a massive leak from the window, to the point where half a dozen people moved to the next carriage to get away from it.
