First Great Western Trainee drivers, Anyone heard back?

There were 8 of us in the morning, but by the time it came to the interviews in the afternoon, we were down to 2! Just to point out that I applied for the previous vacancies that were advertised, and sat the assessments back in January. It was so long ago I can't remember how many questions I...

First Great Western Trainee drivers, Anyone heard back?

Yeah they hold the centres all over the place. I did mine at a hotel in Reading. I did it all in one go, too, they've obviously just changed to doing part 1 and 2 seperately a few months ago. It was a very long day.

First Great Western Trainee drivers, Anyone heard back?

I know. I was kicking myself when I came out because there was so much stuff I wanted to say but didn't because my mind went blank. I convinced myself that what I said wasn't enough.

A tranche is a group. Dictionary says it's a "division of a larger unit." I had my interview on Aug 30, Alex.

Brilliant. Glad I'm not the only one on the forum! You all got your medicals on Monday too? I also know that there's an internal candidate starting on the 5th too.

Thank you mate, I will! And you (and anyone else) are most certainly welcome to pick my brains!

First Great Western Trainee drivers, Anyone heard back?

Thanks, Bob! I will be working out of Oxford. Best of luck with your assessments! I really didn't find the reactions test as difficult as I was imagining. The actual test is quite fast on the second part, but nowhere near as fast as the program you downloaded.

Thank you, Coupes - are you still in the running?

    FGW Conductor posts

Hi guys, FGW have recently posted adverts for conductor vacancies at Bristol, Gloucester, Par and Reading. Yesterday they also posted adverts for Traincare Teamleader / Shunter at Penzance, CSA (12 months) and SDA (6 Months) at Reading, Turnaround Train Cleaner at Oxford, and Gateline...

First Great Western Trainee drivers, Anyone heard back?

I have no idea to be honest mate, I'm assuming that FGW are going to sort it out.

First Great Western Trainee drivers, Anyone heard back?

Hi guys, Well it's been the longest 7 weeks of my life since my DM interview, but I finally got the call from FGW this afternoon with a conditional job offer! Conditional on medical, references and CRB check, I'll be starting on 5th November! To say I'm over the moon would be an...

    Thanks, coupes! Getting nervous now!

First Great Western Trainee drivers, Anyone heard back?

I would imagine it will be another few weeks before they let people know the results of the shortlisting. They will have had thousands of applications, and it will take time to get through them all sorting the wheat from the chaff. Good luck to your friend. Keep an eye on the forum, when people...

    First Great Western Trainee Drivers

I took it in Newbury, not Newport. No lunch provided though... I heard with a certain other TOC the aim is to acquire the coveted "lunch ticket", meaning you'd passed all the tests in the morning and would be sitting the structured interview in the afternoon! It was actually the last week in...

Colour blind car driver convicted for collision at Shiplake Crossing

Thing is though, at a level crossing, if any lamp is illuminated, red or amber, flashing or not, you stop. Every driver must know that, surely? His colour blindness is completely irrelevant.

    First Great Western Trainee Drivers

Applications are still open yet!! It'll be a few weeks yet before they finish shortlisting and sending assessment centre invites out. This is definately a waiting game! FGW do the mechanical comprehension test and the fault finding (dials and cables) test. At least they did in February when...

    FCC -what is going on?

I think the email stating 3 years validity just means your assessment centre results - not your application process as a whole. So if there are no jobs come up in 6 months you would have to apply again, but you wouldn't have to do the assessment centre again.

    First Great Western Trainee Drivers

I applied to FGW when they advertised last year. Passed the assessments, but then some vacancies were withdrawn so my application ended there. So, I'll go for this one again, I'm under no illusion that I'll automatically get past the initial papersift just because I got through it last time...

    Alleged Fare Evasion

Are you serious? No, we are talking about getting some idiot kid a criminal record for trying to steal from the Train Operating Companies. As I see it, he is stealing a journey from the TOCs, just as he would be stealing a DVD from tescos. That is a perfectly fair comparison, and I suspect the...
