Without going back into minute details about the McGee case, there was an expectation back at that time that if a train started moving that anyone in contact with it would move away from it. Although McGee definitely would be negligent 100% in this day and age, back then what he did was very...
All I'm saying is EVERY member of staff I'm friends with has a similar opinion to me. That can't be a coincidence.
Look at how the two poor Merseyrail staff were treated after the dispatch incidents there. The Merseyrail staff I've spoken to don't have many good words to say about the BTP.
A...
Perhaps because they're jealous drivers are paid more than them and also have the right to take industrial action to protect their terms of employment? Just a thought though, I'm sure that's not the case for all officers.
A lot of ex police end up as drivers, which tells a tale to me.
Many staff have had bad experiences where the BTP have not been interested in pursuing complaints they have made against passengers who have committed offences, but many staff have found themselves at the wrong end of an investigation themselves where the issue should have either been dealt with...
The BTP are only there to pursue railway staff these days. They are utterly hopeless at supporting staff or investigating reported crimes properly.
This is from personal experience and the experience of many people I have spoken to unfortunately.
Signals can and have been recontrolled to different boxes without changing the prefix loads of times. SE - Stalybridge (controlled by Manchester East), HM/HU - Healey Mills/Huddersfield (controlled by York ROC).
Plenty of other examples of this exist but you get the idea.
Luckily the exit signal has to be in an easily identifiable location and in this case it was very easy to identify. This is why route knowledge is important.
I do take your point though, if the incorrectly added GPL was the last signal before the exit signal it could lead a driver into passing...
I didn't challenge it because it's not necessary. It would have simply prolonged and confused matters. The end result would have been exactly the same. After all, being told to ignore something I can't see and which doesn't apply to me is hardly doing any harm!
You can keep your work separate from everything by not attending any of the aforementioned marches.
I suspect those causes are funded by the political fund but if they're not it won't affect your day to day work and union membership
Personally I have no issues watering the bushes from the cab door at a signal stop etc, but for obvious reasons other types of personal needs really require access to a proper toilet. Good result by ASLEF
No worries, no need to apologise!
I used to set it on the move at what I considered to be high risk locations when I drove passenger trains. Now it's not so critical because I generally only stop at signals anyway.
Yes, you must set it in this situation.
There is no requirement to set the DRA while still moving in any circumstances. You may do so, however, if you wish in this situation.
