Had my first long distance journey on an IET... acceleration under diesel power is indeed superior to an HST and the ride quality is better.
The superior ride quality is offset by the seat backs being far too hard. I tweeted GWR who simply defended the seats. Did anyone involved in the order...
Apologies. I was due to travel but abandoned plans because journey check starte there was no service between Worcester and Paddington. Didn't realise there was a partial service running.
How on earth have GWR managed to have a shortage of crew today? There are no services running along the Cotswolds Line at all due to planned engineering works. That should have meant more drivers available for the rest of the network.
Imagine the chaos if the Cotswold line had a normal service...
Out of interest, is there a site where delays and the reason for the delay can be located? RTT only goes back 7 days.
The journey in question was a month ago and whilst services were cancelled due to a shortage of crew, GWR have denied a claim suggesting that it was planned engineering work...
A 10 car class 800 failed at Didcot Parkway, so this 7 car HST was delayed to accommodate passengers from that service. That missing carriage would have come in handy!
Thanks for your replies. Not sure why HSTs randomly appear with a carriage missing but apart from some delays, GWR appear to be doing ok on the Cotswolds line this Sunday.
Thanks both. I find it staggering, having spoken with GWR customer service tonight, that they won't permit travel via Birmingham.
It seems GWR expects customers to wait for the 'next available service' or use bus replacements.
How this ongoing farce is being tolerated by the DfT, I have no...
I have no choice but to travel on a Sunday to Paddington via the Cotswold line. On a recent Sunday all but one of the scheduled services were cancelled.
What's the best time to check on GWR.com (or RTT?) whether a service is definitely running/cancelled?
Hope someone can clear up my confusion - I spoke with a GWR TM today about the class 800s on the Cotswold Line. He implied that the great aspect of the 800s was that if there was a fault, even if it was with the WiFi, that couldn't be resolved, the entire unit would be taken out of service by...
I've been looking at the stats for the 800s/802s and they don't appear to have a speed advantage over the current HSTs. Presumably they are quicker at accelerating up to speed?
One aspect of the HSTs I enjoy is the near total absence of engine noise and the sheer smoothness of the ride...
Hello - currently on one of the "Adelante" trains (class 180?) which stopped after Oxford due to the brakes sticking while the train was in motion. Driver spoke with GWR and after being stopped for 10-15 mins, we're proceeding to Reading by which time it's hoped the problem will have resolved...
