We normally remove unused reservations when we know it's busy just to free up seats, esp heading towards London. It could be the passenger decided to upgrade or got an earlier train. If the train is busy then passengers are advised to sit in their reserved seat as then those without...
The HSTs dont 'wait around for the next Sunderland' for hours on end, turn round time on the HST diagrams (unless the overnighter) is approx 1 hour. The set that works in on the 0918 from SUN sits at either Ferme Park or Bounds Green until about half 6 when it heads in to work the 1948 to BDI.
The delay isnt always obvious to the train crews, unless you are waiting at a junction when you know there is another train about that should be passed just before you arrive, but then comes rattling past after you should have passed that point.
Getting stopped in unusual places usually tells...
BUT an HST does from time to time end up on a 225 diagram, which means you have to leg it 9 coaches along the platform past everyone waiting to get on and those getting off!
I have also heard that part of the plan might involve moving the main lines to where the freight through lines are (ie, to the north of the depot), as access to the depot is via a low underbridge...

I think they would run them at times so that when they get to Sunderland they will just pick up the path of the exisiting sunderland-metro centre trains. IIRC the NCL-SUN services still run hourly on sundays, but only two hourly south of Sunderland.
Escalator at the north end, (lift down to the subway from platform level just under the top of the escalator, in the location of the old lift), bridge, then lift from bridge to platform level.
Was thinking Monster beams over each pillar, with ironwork 'arches' that fan out to support the widened deck (with 'hammer beams' underneath that stretched down into the pillars). The transverse beams would be tied together with longitudinal ones that were also anchored into the embankments at...
With some ingenious engineering I dare say the viaduct could be widened to four tracks, fairly unobtrusively. Though it would require the mother of all engineering blockades and diversions!! No several weekends on the trot, more like a few months!
I had heard that they were looking into a flyover for the flat crossing, with the ECML staying put and the Lincoln line going over the top.
Another major bottleneck is Welwyn Garden City to Knebworth over the viaduct and through Welwyn North. Would take some radical thinking to get round that one!
The queueing system at Kings Cross does get used, especially at busy times where two or three trains are being prepared for service, and are departing in quick succession. GC use it quite often.
When a train is announced you get a huge long snake heading for the platforms, though some at the...
With regards to the 185s and 125mph running, the seating in coach C (ie, not FC/Dis toilet) would need to be removed to allow a space between the front of the train and the punters should the worst happen
be interesting to see how they would handle a mobitix... as the 'ticket' is sent as a picture message to the phone, so no way of marking or clipping it! Not seen one for a while but I believe it shows the seat number as well.
