It’s not the same numbering system though. Paris names its metros based on the year the invitation to tender was issued.
The ITT for the MF 01 trains was issued in 2001, hence the name, thus it was already sure they weren’t going to enter service the same year – it ended up being in 2008.
The Paris naming system is different than London’s. RATP names its trains according to the year the ITT was issued, meaning the train is referred to by its name from the start.

The M in MF stands for Matériel (rolling stock), not Métro.
