    Class 458/5

Am I the only one who thinks it strange that two non-identical versions of the 458/5s will be grouped under the same sub-class?

    Class 458/5

I posted in another thread thinking it was this one that in 30 years time a preservation trust will be raising funds to convert a 458/5 back to a 460.

    Class 458/5

I like that the roof has been painted. I think this was a feature of the 442s when they were repainted into revised SWT livery.

    Brighton Main Line in 2004

Thirty years from now a preservation group will be raising money to convert a 458/5 back to a 460.

    377/6

I think I saw two coupled units at Stewarts Lane parked on one of the lines that runs parallel to, but lower than, the Kent line.

What's the best website for planning international journeys?

I echo the sentiments above. The DB iPhone app is fantastic. And of course seat61 is wonderfully laiden with information.

    Livery Overlap

Just to add to The Edge's question, were all locomotives painted wartime black during the war? And once the war was over did the big four repaint them back into their respective company colours or were resources too scarce and the job of reprinting not carried out until British Railways was...

    More variobahns in Croydon

Will the Variobahns find service on the Beckenham Junction branch? I've seen one on test late at night but none in public service.

    Log-in issues on 3G

I forgot about the app. I used to use it but I remember having some issues. It maybe time to download it again!

    Eurotunnel freight shuttle club cars

I think you've raised a really interesting topic. As James says pictures are hard to come by. I doubt many long-distance lorry drivers take photos of the interiors and they're even less likely to post them on rail forums. It would be interesting to know how often they've been refurbished since...

    Log-in issues on 3G

I'm not sure if this is the right forum for technical issues. In the last two weeks I've had problems posting while connected on my iPhone on the T-Mobile 3G network. I can sometimes log in ok but when I try to post a reply I'm asked to log in again. The log in is successful but then the log in...

313121 now in Network Rail yellow

Why do the 313s' centre cab door and windows have to be coloured? They've been black, Silverlink purple and Southern green. Why can't they be yellow for a change?

Mobile reception on trains - worst & best lines?

The EE (T-Mobile/Orange) 3G between London Charing Cross and Clock House is terrible. It's certainly got worse since the launch of 4G.

Terrified commuters forced to flee burning train

I got off the train at the last stop, so I couldn't see the small notices on the door as the doors were open. I certainly don't recall ever seeing the type of evacuation diagrams on Networkers that you see on many other trains.

Terrified commuters forced to flee burning train

I don't recall Southeastern (or previous franchisees) having safety notices. Looking around the train now I can see advertisements and posters warning of fare evasion, CCTV and smoking fines but none indicating what to do in an emergency. Hang on, there are some notices on the doors on how to...

Terrified commuters forced to flee burning train

At the beginning of the video I posted last night a passenger mentions the conductor rail as people evacuate. Around 1m28 into the video the driver can clearly be heard apologising for the late running of the service. The calm passengers who are preparing to evacuate are heard laughing at this...

Terrified commuters forced to flee burning train

As a long-time regular Southeastern commuter I'd say most commuters are aware the trains on this line use an electrified third rail. We've had years of hearing about it every time snow falls. On a packed service like this I'd suggest some commuters would be aware of the danger and warn anyone...

Terrified commuters forced to flee burning train

The passengers generally remained calm. While I agree the safest option often is to file through to the next carriage, sometimes that's impossible. Southeastern trains are notoriously overcrowded in peak hours. Passengers are regularly left at stations because the vestibules and corridors are...

Terrified commuters forced to flee burning train

There are several videos on YouTube. This is one of the longest videos and shows the evacuation from one of the other carriages. You can clearly hear the driver apologising for the late running of the service when most of the carriage has already evacuated. The passengers appear largely calm...
