I'd love to hear about the performance of the 5-car HST northbound from Grantham station call, falling gradient all the way to Newark so would be very lively!! Be interesting to know the speed achieved before Peascliffe Tunnel. Anyone give me any logs/info please?
Thanks
Not looking good, well it's nearly four month's of this year gone and just 2 sets delivered this year (just one last year) so even the most optimistic people will wonder what's going on! I think even 9 sets by the end of the year is pushing it....
There were too many 5-car units ordered-like 2/3 of the GW fleet are 5-car with only 35 9's against 57 5 cars. With 2 5-cars coupled together you've got two wasted cabs and no gangway between units for the passengers, guard or catering trolley, also despite their 26 metre length the first class...
We are well into April now and 23rd more sets to be delivered- considering several sets have been "imminent" for weeks it's not looking good, what is going on at Wabtec?? Something like 11 sets have gone in but only 3 out, whatever happens "Classic" sets will highly likely still be with us post...
It's beyond a joke now, only 2 refurbs have been delivered and only one has really seen any use, at this rate it will probably be 2021 or something till all 26 are done-I think even the most optimistic people have given up hope of any more refurbs coming any time soon.....it's also disgraceful...
Maybe all the 4 car sets!!! If we're lucky..... more than 20 sets to do in less than 10 months, one like every two weeks to be delivered.... Would be nice but unlikely
Kingskerswell between Torre and Newton abbot still have very visible (heavily overgrown) platforms, recent times have been talking about re-opening this station. Nuneaton Abbey street still have some signs I think a boarded up building/shelter is all what's visible at this station I believe...
Yes it's been "due" for weeks, It's a joke since about 10 sets have gone in but only two have come out, Great Western 6 in but only 2 out. Surely in this day and age does it take this long? I can't remember Chiltern having this problem with its plug door fitted Mk3's in the early part of the...
The first unrefurbished HST's arrived in Scotland way back in November 2017!! I'm sure if Scotrail was properly organised (staffed) training would have finished some time ago and we wouldn't have substitutions or cancellations. Let's not even mention Wabtec here..... BR took just six years to...
I'd hope so, the Class 150/153 on the line can be better redeployed elsewhere but with nearly all new or re-built trains at the minute been heavily late (Class 195, 769, Scotrail HSTs, CAF MK 5's, Class 710 etc) I wouldn't hold your breathe!!
Any idea of when the next few refurbished sets are appearing? It's a very sad state of affairs if Great Western Railway has received most of their 93 new IEP's yet ScotRail only had TWO not even new refurbished units.....?! Would new-build have been a better/quicker option?
Possibly. Both could be technically possible and no more time consuming than the current situation. The problem is now for Wabtec it needs to refurbish enough HST's before the end of 2019 as the current unrefurbished ones cannot run after then (don't comply with PRM regulations) and there needs...
The Class 180's have had so many failures/problems this year that really a one way trip to the scrapyard is the only option!! Well of course not until the new trains enter service.
