First car : lease or buy?

Thanks for the useful advice - I'll certainly bear that in mind. Something like a Yaris or i20 as you described would probably be ideal, by reasonably priced I expect between £1500 and £4000 or so for a decent first car?

    Cars and owner stereotypes

Just yesterday I saw an Audi Q7 stop in a traffic jam on a yellow grid blocking access to Newcastle Eldon Square bus station - que lots of angry bus drivers honking their horns at the driver - no surprises, it was a middle aged woman with sunglasses who clearly needs a massive SUV to pop down to...

First car : lease or buy?

Thank you all very much for the advice. One of the reasons why I'm quite tempted to lease a brand new car rather than buying used is that there won't be any MOTs needed during a three year lease. I haven't had a good look into insurance prices yet, that will probably be a major factor in...

First car : lease or buy?

I'm hopefully going to be passing my test within a couple of months and looking to get a reasonably cheap car to start off with. I don't have any particular preferences but it would need to be very reliable and comfortable for long periods of motorway driving - I'll be starting a job requiring...

    Cars and owner stereotypes

This one goes for just about any old Toyota...I think every single Avensis/Corolla/Verso driver I've seen in the last fee years has been an older Asian gentleman, usually with an impressive beard and little hat. Seat Ibiza - young males who make their car their whole personality.

    Cardiff Bus

These Irizars are owned (I believe!) by Reading Buses, they were leased to Midland Classic but have been returned and now leased to Cardiff Bus. There are three now with Cardiff Bus 781-783, YN17ONJ/K/L.

    Bluestar Discussion

GNE had 19 LX06 B7's in that series - 6901 to 6919. I think only 18 are being transferred - 6916 and 6919 were recently used for spare parts at Hexham so I suspect one of those might be scrapped instead.

    Go North East

5489 is indeed an E200MMC. Here's a BBC article about the fire. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-tyne-63976888

    Go North East

Which routes? Branding is certainly a lot messier than it was but the majority of buses on branded routes carry the correct branding. It's still miles ahead of Arriva's branding efforts

    Russia invades Ukraine

Did MH17 violate these air safety rules?

Closest settlement you've never been to.

From Newcastle (lived here two years and been around quite a bit!) nearest suburb I've never been to is Westerhope - about 5.5km away. Nearest town would be Ferryhill (32km)

    Russia invades Ukraine

Just like it's just 'luck' whether you happen to be born in a Ukrainian village that gets bombed?

    Russia invades Ukraine

But it won't magically end with the death of Putin either.

    Russia invades Ukraine

Calm down... Putin's not going to nuke the UK any time soon. Russia hasn't even taken their tactical nukes out of storage or taken any steps to use them, I very much doubt that will change in the near future. Even if tactical nukes are moved to the area, I strongly suspect that will trigger a...

    Russia invades Ukraine

I would think it very unlikely that Japan or Finland would actually invade "Russian" territory, even at this point in time. There's still the risk of nuclear retaliation.

    Arriva Buses (including Greenline)

Agreed, and the investment is still very limited compared to that from Stagecoach, Go-Ahead and especially First, who have been investing in a fair few batches of vehicles in recent years. Also worth noting that Arriva hasn't invested in any alternative-fuel vehicles, compared to lots of new...

    Arriva Buses (including Greenline)

To be fair, Arriva have been doing some limited investment in the last year or so - sizeable orders of Streetdecks and Streetlites for Merseyside, Volvos for Luton and Enviro's for Northumbria. Still hardly compensates for the lack of orders in the last few years though.
