Filming bus routes in Newcastle & surrounding areas

Q3 and 53/54 are very good for the city, especially towards the Quayside, 53/54 also take the swing bridge across the river (only in the Gateshead direction) which is a really nice route. Almost all southbound GNE routes and cross city Stagecoach routes go through Grainger Town - the part of...

Filming bus routes in Newcastle & surrounding areas

Not wishing to be super pedantic but the Arriva Gemini on the 308 are VDL DB300s rather than Volvo B9s. I'm afraid these have all been withdrawn from Newcastle and transferred to Stockton with some rather less exciting E300s taking their place.

Filming bus routes in Newcastle & surrounding areas

The BX63 batch are still in Service, although I suspect they're on borrowed time as they are now a rather non-standard type. Some of the GNE Citaros went to GNW but many were scrapped or sold to independents. All OmniCities have been withdrawn, mostly went for scrap. Two are still in use at...

Filming bus routes in Newcastle & surrounding areas

If you're trying to cover lots of ground and save a bit of time I would highly recommend taking the X21 between Newcastle and Durham instead of the 21 - it's largely the same route but takes the A1 instead of some boring estates in Birtley and between Chester and Durham. It takes around an hour...

Trivia: Rolling stock that looks/feels ahead of its time

I strongly disagree, they certainly don't feel 40 years old inside but I don't think they look brand new at all. Many of the interiors are now quite worn and many of the seats are terribly uncomfortable due to wear and tear issues.

Stagecoach West - Fleet News & Discussion

Expect to see a few vehicles from Stagecoach Newcastle as well, probably 11284 / 11293 / 11300 / 11301 judging from bustimes.

    First Group: General Discussion

Assuming my fleetlist is correct and up to date, I have the following in the First York fleet : Diesel 5x Citaro G 12x Streetdeck 24x B9TL 8x Streetlite 14x B7RLE Total : 5x Artic 22x Single 36x Decker An order of 24x single and 29x decker won't replace every diesel bus but may be...

    car insurance prices

You raise some fair points, but it's worth noting that London has by far the most punctual and frequent railway network of any UK city. Most other places are unlikely to have a 30-minute service on almost all trains! Is there one area of London that you travel to at a much higher frequency...

    car insurance prices

I'm surprised that you're being charged that much - I think we are in a similar stage of life and with similar needs from a car. I haven't passed my test yet (fingers crossed I'l pass in a few weeks' time) but I've been comparing different cars for insurance to see what would be the best...

Tyne and Wear Metro : all stations in one day?

I was planning to do something like that, especially on the more remote sections on the branches - might also be a good idea at some stations that you don't want to be hanging around at for too long ie Meadowwell... Thanks for the advice. I'm not too sure how much I can actually plan with...

Tyne and Wear Metro : all stations in one day?

I was thinking of doing something almost exactly like that - I also estimated so.ewhere around 12 hours, possibly a little more because of delays but maybe less if peak services are used.

Tyne and Wear Metro : all stations in one day?

I've been planning to do a trip of all the 60 Metro stations in one day - easily possible to travel through each station but now I'm wondering if it would be possible to alight/board a train at every station. Has anyone here done anything similar?

What kind of bus enthusiast are you?

I suppose most of my interest falls into two categories- travelling long or interesting routes and photography. If I have a spare day that will often be spent with an all day ticket and an attempt to do a long/scenic bus journey. Most recently done the 685 Newcastle - Carlisle and the 50 South...

That's very specific. Don't think I've seen that many Scania V8s around - what makes them so popular in Ireland?

Trivia: Towns/Cities with completely separate routes of the same number

Lots and lots of duplicate route numbers in Newcastle- perhaps inevitable with three long-established operators? These are the ones I can think of off the top of my head: 1 - Stagecoach Slatyford to Coach Lane 1 - Go North East Gateshead to Whitley Bay 6 - Stagecoach Metrocentre to High Heaton...
