    Northumberland Line reopening: progress updates

Like the last days of Rome! 1763930530 It seems that those OD level crossings are a bit sensitive.

    Christmas Workings

The Tyne Valley has announced a two hourly service due to West Coast works on Boxing Day. The North East usually doesn’t have any trains, apart from Metro, on Boxing Day and New Years Day. Christmas Day sees a lot of work being done on the King Edward Bridge over the Tyne.

    Northumberland Line reopening: progress updates

Just down the road, Morpeth to Newcastle is also around 15 miles and you can pick up an Advance Single for £2.90 on Northern or £2.80 on TPE. Ashington to Hexham is around 40 miles and you can also get an Advance Single for £6.80. Decent pricing all round and one of the factors of the success...

    Northumberland Line reopening: progress updates

Blyth Bebside opened today with little fanfare but locals are overwhelmingly positive. An off peak single is £2.10 and you’re in Newcastle City Centre in less than 30 minutes.

Selfishly, I don’t mind the new times for that train. It will get me back in the house for 1745 and allow me to have a couple of pints before hand if I wish. Mind, those that finish at around 1700 will be hard pressed. I know the Councillor for Pegswood has been raising the issue.

Rollercoaster rides - Has ride quality declined?

As someone mentioned, there is a lot of Soil Moisture Deficit around. Also known as desiccation, it is throwing track geometry off as the ground shrinks. This has become a real issue over the past decade as the effect of the drier climate compounds to cause issues. Obviously, this year was very...

Lost Property - system not fit for purpose

With the increase in leisure travel at weekends, you would have thought they may have changed the times that Lost Property was open and had some service at a weekend. I agree with your sentiment, though. I wonder how much they will charge you to return it?

Northumberland Line reopening: wider benefits for the local area?

We may have to wait for the £4 artisan loaf but a coffee cart selling Flat Whites at Ashington Station in the morning would make a few quid. House prices along the route are going up due to the connectivity to the City Centre and to avoid the horrendous North Tyneside traffic.

    New TPE first class menu

Not complaints from me on the 0902 from Newcastle. Drinks served by Chester Le Street. I was going to opt for the breakfast but went for the bacon bap instead which was served around 10 minutes after Darlington. Two decent slices of smoked bacon, a fresh bap and some brown sauce, all served...

    December 2025 East Coast Timetable

Can anyone articulate the services that Morpeth are losing and gaining? I seen things in the local press but it lacked detail.

    Northumberland Line reopening: progress updates

Do those forecasts take into account delayed opening of the line? Anyway, the crux of the matter is that the line is a success and should be completed. It has been fantastic for the local area.

    Northumberland Line reopening: progress updates

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c74nq19w100o This states the council was predicting 50,000 when it had already hit 250,000 in April. Not an exact science but I’m sure the passenger modelling data will be somewhere.

    Northumberland Line reopening: progress updates

Agreed. It has had over 500,000 journeys in 8 months with three stations yet to open. That is far beyond what they had forecast and is being reported up to five times more than predicted.

    Northumberland Line reopening: progress updates

The ‘grand scheme’ was in relation to other infrastructure projects such as HS2, Crossrail, TransPennine Route Upgrade, East Coast Digital Railway, Midland Maiine Electrification and others. The cost of looking at and deciding not to dual the A1 north of Morpeth was £70 million.

    Northumberland Line reopening: progress updates

Of course not. The line is a great success and needs the extra funding which, in the grand scheme of things, is a rounding error, to make it complete.

https://www.northumberlandgazette.co.uk/news/politics/council/further-ps379m-wanted-to-complete-northumberland-line-rail-project-5288880 As usual with major infrastructure projects in the UK. It is one of those that you can’t not complete.

Odd Skipping of Stops at Durham (25/08) - What's the Real Cause?

That will be my fault! Much ado about nothing…

Odd Skipping of Stops at Durham (25/08) - What's the Real Cause?

People react differently to different things and have different perspectives. However, the fact of the matter is the driver wasn’t willing to take the train forward and relief was arranged.
