To add to this, although the planning rules permit it, it has been proven that there is no slack in the margins in the planning rules if crossing at Kettering South (if timetabled correctly) E.g obviously if the Corby is late it will delay the train behind, but also if the Sheffield train is...
As had already been mentioned there were many places where full length HSTs didn't stop with the TGS platformed. Camborne is another example, where the train was always platformed to not block the crossing.
Similarly with the IETs, it isn't as simple as saying the front coaches are platformed...
This doesn't match the photos of the poster you attached, a 9 car doesn't have a coach G for a start.
Back of coach G on a 11 car and back of Coach J on a 9 car according to the poster. Making special note of the two diagrams for a 9 car dependent on which way you are travelling.
This is deliberate, the train diverted via and called additionally at Bristol Parkway. Therefore this reversal at Patchway reflects the reversal at Bristol Parkway.
On this particular trains there isn't any reservations in the back set, the majority of trains XC run as a double don't have reservations in the rear set. There are however a small number of trains which do, typically on a weekday, this even catches out staff who announce it as completely...
Coach D Seats 57 to 70 are unreserved plus the four seats without screens in the same area.

Only the four seats which replaced a luggage rack don't have a screen.
The data doesn't show a train is "berthed at a station", it shows the train is somewhere between the previous signal it passed and the signal the berth is representing. The interpretation of the data via a map on the other hand may have a platform annotated next to a particular berth, but that...
This is typical Blackbox (the supplier of the CIS), for whatever reason they don't seem to have got it setup to read the signalling berths to pick up platform alterations. So trains will continue to show on platform screens while the train arrives and departs from another. I have seen this...
This is just classic Blackbox (the supplier of the CIS for WMT), it regularly gives out incorrect information, especially where platform alterations are involved. I've seen the system regularly display incorrect information when a platform alteration is involved, such as this where the a train...
I have attached a timetable from December 2008. I'll let you look at the detail, but typically hourly between Yeovil and Waterloo (with extras in the peak and the odd one during the day), West of Yeovil there was a bit more variation with a small number of shuttles between Exeter and...
This is just the nature of the data, you just happened to look at the train whilst it was still on the approach to Platform 4, once it passed the signal and entered Platform 3 it would have updated.
Unfortunately there is limitations in the data source where platforms are split like this, the...
Is that as a result of the delay opening a local door in both sets used to cause? Or was what I saw a one off? I noticed it cause a dwell well over the booked minute!
Not necessarily, both platforms hold more than exactly 3 carriages. When I used the station a few years ago with a 6 car, a local door on each set was released separately, in the middle of the train.
Ah of course! I always forgot about that. Didn't think it was permissive, but missed the limit of shunt on the maps, so was the (incorrect) conclusion I came to.
This signal would only show a position light if going into an occupied platform at Norwood Junction, although don't know how often that is done. There isn't any route from it to remain on the depot.
This signal does not apply to the train that derailed, it applies to the train on the other line. You can see the route indicator under it, it will be showing a G for Gullet Road, which is where the train on the other line went via to get off the depot.
