GWR will not do zero fare excess

It sounds to me that the OP is not wanting to excess the fare. They want to do an exchange of a cheaper ticket purchased as directed under section 3 of the NRCoC, as the ticket they want to buy was not available for sale at their origin station. Whether the TOC choose to do that by means of an...

    SWT new website live

The new site appears to have been designed primarily with smartphone users in mind, which is good when you're on the move. I don't like the way it renders on a computer though.

    Southern Delay Replay declination

Southern probably misread your complaint. Write back to them explaining that you only took the Great Western train because the two previous trains run by them were cancelled.

Southern DOO: ASLEF members vote 79.1% for revised deal

I also think the RMT need to totally rethink how they communicate with the public. Their strategy as far as I can remember has always been one of using scary language and talking about privatisation and profits being shipped abroad, without explaining the actual issues which are causing staff to...

    London One Day Travelcard

There are two routes for outboundary Travelcards issued from Cambridge. ANY PERMITTED - valid on any train for a return journey between Cambridge and the boundary of Zone 6, and then unlimited travel on any operator within the zones. The main reason to buy this more expensive ticket is if you...

    Email Account Hack

Sounds like a Joe Job to me. I have had this happen to me in the past, and whilst annoying it if this is the case it will probably subside in a few days. From addresses in emails are trivially easy to forge and historically spammers have forged the From addresses using other addresses harvested...

    Oyster/Contactless Q's

I think you misread what blakey1152 said. The maximum fare is currently up to £8.90 (or up to £14.00 for an incomplete journey to/from Gatwick Airport).

London Midland ticket sale appears on statement as "SHIRLEY SHIRLEY"

It's because Virgin West Coast's booking engine is run by Trainline, who moved credit card processing abroad to secure lower card processing fees.

    Oyster/Contactless Q's

The answer is in our Fares & Ticketing Guide. If there is more than 30 minutes between touches, the system assumes that you have made two incomplete journeys and charges you two maximum fares. Neither journey counts towards the daily cap.

Shutting doors while passengers are boarding - how low can EMT sink?

In London, its not uncommon for the doors to start to close before all the people waiting on the platform have had a chance to board, even if there is room on board for them. There's nothing frustrating than waiting on the platform for 5 minutes for your train, and then not be given time to...

FGW at Paddington still getting evening Off Peak validity spectacularly wrong.

The 'NSE rule' may have exceptions, but it is a good rule of thumb to use if one had to guess a ticket's validity.

    East Croydon to Lincoln Return

I didn't look at VTEC or NRE. However, according to the routeing guide PDFs, it's only mapped via Lincoln if you leave the mainline at Peterborough and rattle around on EMT via Spalding and Sleaford. You can't stay on the ECML until Newark, then go to Lincoln on that ticket.

    Excessing CDS fares bought online

As long as they are printed on orange RSP stock and not print@home, mobile, smart or another newfangled technology, the fact that they were bought online doesn't make any difference. Excessing a single to a return is not one of the excesses that you are contractually entitled to, but there are...

    East Croydon to Lincoln Return

Note that with the Disputed Route Procedure, you still have to pay today's fares and would only receive a refund after the fact if it is adjudicated in your favour. I suspect that this process would be drawn out and not worth the hassle if you are only making the journey once.

Season pass: StNeots - London Blackfriars via KGX (Peterborough line plus Thameslink)

I would choose Blackfriars as a destination instead of London Bridge. Also, you might want to keep quiet about using a London Terminals ticket from the north to Thameslink, as it is not valid, and you have been committing a criminal offence using the ticket that way. The barriers are quite dumb...

Anytime Day Return between Liv St & Chelmsford

They can also use the numbers printed on the ticket to trace when and where it was bought and collected. If the ticket was collected the same day at Chelmsford, then your excuses had better be good! P.S. I am surprised that section 17 of the NRCoC doesn't explicitly say that the unused return...

    East Croydon to Lincoln Return

Tickets for a more expensive routeing between two points are also valid for the permitted routes of cheaper-routed tickets between the same points. One place this is eluded to is page F17 of the National Routeing Guide in Detail, with an example involving a Via Manchester fare. Retford is not a...

Great Western Railway penalty fare route increases

From SRA Penalty Fars Rules Given this, it is surprising that this is the first we heard of the scheme. It doesn't make sense to me to operate a Penalty Fares scheme over an area that contains some non-PF stations with no ticket-purchasing opportunities. Surely any fare dodger will just claim...
