It was an interesting situation in Derby this evening. Changing off a crosscountry train, I was met with an an an announcement saying passengers for Eong Eaton, Beeston and Nottingham should go to the pride park entrance for a rail replacement bus. But within 10 minutes the DBY-STP went to long...
It is all about enough capacity. Why the core isn't being reinforced is a puzzle. I would also like Birmingham - Nottingham, Birmingham - Leicester go into the west midlands franchise
I think Nottingham coaches have (some of) the same directors as Premiere did. I would think though if AOT couldn't make it pay on their shoe-string costs, probably no one can. Out of interest, does this leave any stops unserved or was it a complete duplicate of something or something else?
I sort of wondered about a hybrid solution. Heavy rail south from Dudley, and the metro connecting from the mainline station to Wednesbury. Running the Stourbridge jn stoppers to Dudley instead
Birmingham is a bit of a mixed bag. The Metro now serves New Street directly, but Snow Hill lost its. The main bus stop groups have been moved away from the very city centre, onto the exit roads, but none of them are much of a walk. The swift smart card is ok, but other cities have better...
Saw 390006 at BHM earlier. Struggled to get much of an impression that close up - just it seems too white. I guess it will look more balanced with the next franchise.
I seem to remember that the same headcode cannot be used in the same region within 6 hoe (I stand to be corrected on the time). As a result, I suspect that it can only happen in London where regions converge.
I noticed today (a bit late perhaps-been out of the country) that the 24/25 has got new E400s. I'm a bit surprised, because that has always been a bit of a Cinderella service. Remember Nottingham Network for the >10 min routes.
This registration today:
I would be interested in the route between West Bridgford and Cotgrave. A tendered service to replace the V2? Starting quite soon but nothing on YBs website.
I made a journey a couple of years ago. For someone who spends most of my rail time as a commuter, it was definitely different from what I was used to, but ok. A bit more like a weekend NX coach.
Over the last few weeks I've seen a lot of troughwork and cabinet/REB bases going down between Spondon and Stenson. Looks like some budget for resignalling has been released. The local rag is also quoting NR that the scheme will involve a very protracted semi-blockade.
In the greater Nottingham area, the major bus operators, and the tram have consolidated their real time information, and it is all available using the Robin Hood network app, and on the individual operators' websites
