    Wrexham redouble

With a twin tracked railway line, does the lower of the individual track speed limits dictate the speed limit for both tracks? i.e. would a small section of 60mph in one of the tracks lead to the whole of the twin track (new and "old" 90mph) being downgraded to 60mph?

    Chester Station roof designs

Does Chester Station hold the record for the most higglety-pigglety collection of roof designs? Must be half a dozen in this shot alone:

Yes, I find the wagons very curious and they have been mentioned several times on these boards under different topics.

Due to their "historical interest", maybe the MOSI should have asked for their inclusion in the compensation package for severing the historical link?

[Trivia] Termini stations with least facilities

To compound matters, the station also looks very much on the edge of town.

Unless the Stephenson's bridge can be put to some form of practical use (e.g. visitor's area/viewing point) it just seems to me like a pointless blight. Then again, it would probably have cost a fortune to demolish.

    [Trivia] Unused railway infrastructure?

An interesting thread that could form the basis of a book.

    [Trivia] Unused railway infrastructure?

Only a personal theory but it could be that the landowner, with a vested interest in the the railway, just "took it upon himself" to make a start. Maybe he was looking to create jobs for his workers in straitened times or even a rich man's folly. Not my neck of the woods anymore but, as there...

    [Trivia] Unused railway infrastructure?

I understand that this cutting is the only construction relating to a somewhat ambitious scheme to extend the Longridge line eastwards to connect with the Blackburn-Hellifield line.

On projects of this type, I think it can be deceptive in that all the big civil stuff and even the trackwork/primary electrics look complete but the thing that takes a lot of time is the small, unseen, electrical wire stuff, i.e. communications, protection, control, signalling and the successful...

    East Lancashire Railway/Metrolink

I think this has been touched on before but do the interconnecting points between the East Lancs Railway and the Metrolink serve any purpose? Noticed the points the other day on a trip from Manchester to Bury Market and they looked perfectly serviceable. Could you drive a steam engine into...
