National Grid warns of possible blackouts

I work in the industry. Please don’t lecture me.

National Grid warns of possible blackouts

True, but the power cuts you refer to are down to faults in the very local area (down to a single transformer normally) or are as a result of cables being damaged. The spun up hype was that a lack of gas could cause a national issue. Considering the ships full of LNG that have been off the coast...

National Grid warns of possible blackouts

They were fearmongering. 1673790675 The problem is social media. It almost shouldn’t have been said by the media at all because it is known what the social media effect is. Remember the last time the petrol stations ran dry. The media reported on an issue with 2 stations in London that had...

National Grid warns of possible blackouts

No they’re not and they never were. I work in the sector. We plan and carry out exercises every year to test the theory. We’ve never had to do it in reality. This year we went through it in more detail. We do this every so often. The media picked it up and ran with it.

Shops selling at prices ending in 99p

I disagree. Those odd pennies have benefitted charities across the country. I generally stick any change less than 5p in a charity box.

National Grid warns of possible blackouts

Spot on... Most of the time, it gets buried, but becaue of the Ukrainian war, there is a slightly higher chance on a very very cold day that we could face a 3 hour cut. This winter is predicted to be mild. 1666659069 Gas holders are only good for low volume local very short term storage...

Energy price rises and price cap discussion.

Burning gas produces NOx, CO, CO2, etc. all the same gasses as a car exhaust. It’s not very clean at all. Plus you have the damage of digging for and Insulation does pay back. Especially with energy prices increasing.

We shouldn’t be reducing London’s services, we should be bringing up that of other areas.

Is the use of cash dying out?

the backend database has been there for train tickets since they started selling tickets online. To produce an e-ticket will just be a script that extracts the information needed and puts it on the relevant form. Something that can then interface with the wallet function on a phone. A similar...

Why aren't there dedicated bike spaces or USB charging point on the 378?

444s only had them in first class (and one half coach of standard IIRC) and are a regional express train rather than an inner suburban commuter train. In most stock today BS1363 sockets or USB sockets were fitted during refurbishment.

Battery power and bi-mode vs electrification

Hopefully by the time the first set of batteries degrades we should be looking at the lines being electrified (one can dream). It would be a fairly simple conversion to remove the batteries and convert to non battery EMU

Battery power and bi-mode vs electrification

Not sure why more moving parts are needed in battery trains? They are basically electric trains. The traction motor would be the same. You’re adding a static converter and an inverter to the mix to allow charging and motor control. They are generally solid state. Battery technology has moved...

Well the choice is with “I broke the economy but I can fix it” Sunak and “Pork Markets” Truss. Either way this is a gift to the opposition.

Sizewell C Nuclear Power Station Approved

Nuclear with renewables has to be the way forward. Even though I work in the gas industry I know that generation of electricity by gas is not sustainable. It would be good to also get Bradwell B approved.
