What signal is this? And how did it work?

Thanks, now I know I’m on the right track I can do some more digging on the history, how they worked etc. I suspect the chance of me finding some internals is slim 1693088654 I did suspect there was something missing. I’m sure I have seen something similar that was a white light at some level...

What signal is this? And how did it work?

I recently acquired this signal but I am unsure what sort it is? Is it a search light multi colour one? I thought they were a LNER thing? This seems to be BR Western region? It’s wired up with a 6v bulb but I’m not sure if this is original? Anyone know anything about it or where I can read more...

Heritage railways and camp sites within walking distance?

We have just had a great 3 nights at Station Campsite in Carrog near Llangollen railway, the site was really good, and the railway the other side of the hedge was great. Shame Carrog station is now a shadow of its former self, no cafe, not manned most of the time real shame.

Signal types and fitting new lamps

Mine will be mostly used at night as a garden ornament and just a nice thing, so I guess I don’t need them as focused. I was thinking maybe paint the inside white and then use some garden LED fairy lights or something as they can come with a ready made timer built in and are low voltage...

Signal types and fitting new lamps

That’s great thankyou, I was only thinking 240v mains for ease of wiring but I appreciate what you are saying and I will look at something lower voltage with the main power supply etc being in the shed which is next to the ground signal and then I just have to run a lower voltage wiring to the lamp.

Signal types and fitting new lamps

I have just acquired a couple of signals along with a few other bits and bobs from the wife of a local collector. Her husband sadly passed away a little while ago and she is now passing on his collection. Most has gone to auction but some bits were too big or heavy and I have now got some of the...

Heritage railways and camp sites within walking distance?

Thanks for all the replies, really surprised it was so popular and keep them coming as I will make a list of them for future trips. I will have a good look through the list later and see what we can book for a spare weekend in August. We are hoping to do a railway we haven’t done yet ideally but...

Churnet Valley Railway Discussion - Dining, Dress codes, Dogs et al

We always take our hound, he loves a train ride.. we went on the CVR not long ago as we was given a family pass for our wedding, my cousin came too as he has our hounds brother but the £20 for 2 dogs was a bit of a sting. Every other railway we have been on the dogs are either £2-£3 tops or...

    Southern themed heritages railways

Surprisingly not easily, but where’s the fun in buying them on line? She uses them as a log of where we have been too.

    Southern themed heritages railways

Brill thanks, the first three I thought were, will look up the Kent and East Sussex and see… the main reason is my wife collects the fridge magnets that look like totems but we don’t have any Southern and she wants at least 1 for the collection this year.

    Southern themed heritages railways

Hello hive mind, this might be a relatively easy one for some… which heritage railways are Southern themed? We have visited a number of GWR ones while on holidays, MR ones as we are based in the midlands and even a couple of LNER ones, but no Southern ones yet so that’s our next task.. but we...

East Lancs Railway protects reputation by sacking leading woman in a male dominated sector?

We went for Mother’s Day and found it to be alright, but after seeing this we won’t be going again till things change, my wife is a female engineer in a very very male industry and company and the fights she has to have is saddening especially when she first starts so anything like this a big...
