    Northern Pacer Withdrawals - Info?

If so, then this seems to still be at Gascoigne Wood, might be a quirky vehicle to preserve, obviously depending upon the actual condition of the unit.

Which set had vehicle 55555 in it?

    Northern Pacer Withdrawals - Info?

That sounds right you know. I had seen a photo of it under Man Vic, not sure where those vaults are or even why it was put there considering 142059 was written off at Liverpool Lime street. I did see a photo of it stabled at Edge Hill after the accident. So why they transported the cab front to...

Not unlike Leyland National buses then!

Memories of the introduction of Pacer units

The Northern Spirit ones had that interior through to 2000/1 time era. Obviously the doors had changed by then to the current form of single leaf. Also the interior parcel partition doors had long since been removed leaving empty bulk heads. The class 144s had similar striped seating albeit in...

Memories of the introduction of Pacer units

Moderator note: Split from https://www.railforums.co.uk/threads/northern-pacer-withdrawals-info.166981/ The 142s (bus seats and Merseyrail abomnations) were a real step down in comfort compared to the 101s. They were also a darn sight colder in winter too! That said though, the 142s look...

Porterbrook, so I assume these repurposed vehicles will be class 144s?

    Northern Pacer Withdrawals - Info?

So if I was to go to Manchester on a Saturday, would I have any chance of a 142 set turning up on a Rose Hill service, or would I have to go on a weekday? I'm afraid timings and service patterns have changed on this route since I was a regular on it back in 2002-3 (so I'm not sure what runs...

    Northern Pacer Withdrawals - Info?

It would be interesting to have a list of last passenger workings of 142s in key towns and cities. For example, last visits to Leeds, Doncaster, Lincoln, Wakefield, York etc. I suspect most places will be between 20th - 31 Dec 2019 (certainly the case in the north east). Obviously, west of the...

    Northern Pacer Withdrawals - Info?

Whilst I concur with the logic of this, I have to say it would be a sad world if no one preserved stock from more recent times. Imagine if no one had preserved the old BR era steam locos and coaching stock because they weren't from the Big Four. At the end of the day, familiarity and ubiquity...

Any idea which unit was involved? These class 143s seem to be fire prone!

    Northern Class 142 sightings

Ha, I haven't read this from the start only the last few months. Thanks, that does explain those units out and about without PRM mods. So back to my initial understanding, I assume these particular units cannot run with Pacers? As 142s can only run with modified stock.

    Northern Class 142 sightings

I bet it was the unit I saw this morning. It was a 150/2 running the Leeds - Selby service.

    Northern Class 142 sightings

Ah I'll keep a lookout for the destination blind, that's a good pointer from a distance. The only reason I asked for clarification on sprinter PRM rules is, I was wondering if there was ever a scenario where a pacer ends up paired with a non compliant sprinter. I suppose clearly the set couldn't...

    Northern Class 142 sightings

No Pacers of any sort present in Leeds today. However, slightly OT but I am wondering how the new access rules work for the non-pacer stock. Noticed a solitary 150 arrive in Leeds in old Northern livery, not sure if this set (I didn't catch the number) has been modified yet or not. It certainly...

    Northern Pacer Withdrawals - Info?

I guess perhaps Pacers are just so politically toxic that maybe they'll just throw 144012 out with the rest. Seems a shame considering the amount spent on converting it. Might as well get some use out of the set, even if it has to be placed on a quieter branch well out of the public limelight.

What is the plan regarding 144012? I assume it will be leaving Northern with the other 144s. Wonder if it has any further use elsewhere? I was just thinking to myself whether it would be any use on a route like Cardiff Bay shuttles (for example), the old haunt of the class 121 unit some years back.

    Northern Pacer Withdrawals - Info?

Slightly OT, but to answer your question. The Class 111 is on the main line not the Hope Valley line (the latter is the single track occupied by the pacer on the left). I can only assume the Met-Cam has come from either Derby or Nottingham (or even just Chesterfield) - not sure what 'local'...

    Northern Pacer Withdrawals - Info?

One question I have always wondered. I know sprinters can be paired up as hybrid units i.e. a class 158 vehicle coupled to a class 156 vehicle to form a 2 car set. Would it theoretically be possible for a 142 vehicle to be paired up with a 144 vehicle, or a 143 with a 144? I just imagine a 142...

    Northern Pacer Withdrawals - Info?

Oh yeah, I didn't mean to dispute that fact by saying pacers never worked the service, as your photo shows they certainly did turn up on those workings. I was simply stating that the impression I was given some years ago was that the pacers weren't the preferred traction. I guess in the mid to...
