    Advice on Reservations

The reservations are all already available on line, its the specifics of them we're having problems with - specifying we'd like a straightforward change wherever on the way there, but with an hour wait in Exeter on the way back.

    Advice on Reservations

Hello, We're trying to book tickets for the annual family holiday to St Ives in August, and we're coming across a bit of trouble in reserving the seats we'd like. We're buying standard Return tickets, in this case an Anytime return from Four Oaks to Cheltenham Spa and an Off-Peak Return...

    Network Rail Work Experience

Yeah, the office I worked in, which I think was Midlands Train Planning, moved down to Milton Keynes. I had a great time too - it was really interesting seeing how the different parts of the railway operated! :) Though be prepared to be disappointed - Network Rail was the last railway place I...

    Network Rail Work Experience

I did my work experience in 2009 with Network Rail at their Train Planning Offices in Birmingham - unfortunately these are now closed - but I was accepted after ringing the number on the front of one of their documents on the internet (think it may have been the Rules of the Plan, now known as...

Shropshire to London link bidding war!!

These four operators are currently in the bidding to operate the InterCity West Coast franchise (Virgin Trains) from sometime later this year - it has been suggested that each of them could introduce services from Shropshire through to London (but don't hold your breath)... There is a...

    most boring line

Then you missed the best bit (assuming you only went Porthmadog - Tan-y-Bwlch)! After Tan-y-Bwlch the trees clear and you get more into the mountains - then there's the interest of the spiral at Dduallt and the reservoir at Tanygrisau, as well as the slag heaps at Blaenau (which admittedly is a...

    Intercity Express Programme going ahead

Not quite none, but there are only a few 221s on Virgin Trains electric-only diagrams between Birmingham and Scotland or London and the West Midlands - I'd estimate 7 or 8 diagrams...

    DMU Substitutes

A couple of times back in Central Trains days I remember having diesel units on the Cross City Line covering for EMUs - a 150 on a train from Four Oaks to Birmingham and a 158 on a late night train back from Lichfield if I remember correctly. :)

    Cross City leaf fall timetable

I think there are plans to bring the 6tph on the Cross City through to Lichfield when stock allows - at least I remember reading it somewhere (possibly in one of the RUSs). Along with the 3tph to Bromsgrove and 3tph to Redditch (if they do happen), there will be a bit of a change in service...

    Cross City leaf fall timetable

In the years up to now, the service has been reduced to 4tph between Four Oaks and Longbridge, with 2tph continuing to Lichfield TV and Redditch (although it increased back to 6tph in the morning and evening peaks IIRC). Now they've improved it slightly, still with the normal 4tph between Four...

Hotels in london with a railway view

Travelodge London Southwark is pretty good - you've got the Thameslink lines just south of Blackfriars crossing the Charing Cross - London Bridge lines. Incredibly busy - as long as you get a room on that side of the hotel!

Power to Close down UK Rail Network

Even if there was a terrorist attack, there would be little point in closing lines that were not affected - e.g. if the attack occured in London, what would be the point in closing the West Highland or Cambrian Coast Line?

VT - Friday Euston - Man Picc Extra

Now, on Thursdays and Fridays, when the 1857 to Manchester runs, the Pendolino which forms it is the one that normally runs the 1843 to Crewe (via Birmingham), a normal pattern Birmingham service that is extended to Crewe in the path of a Birmingham - Scotland train (which don't run this late at...

Does anyone know whether the Bubble Car is running in the afternoons at the moment? Or is it back to mornings only?

12 car 350/1 to be tested at 110mph

I'd imagine it might end up more like 350s going to replace 323s on the Walsall - Birmingham - Wolverhampton and Birmingham New Street - Birmingham International lines and concentrating all the 323s on the Cross City line so there's a uniform fleet (for doubling up and the like).
