    French TGV's

the POS sets, are, of course, Réseau trailers. Very tangentially related- I've seen recently videos of "TGV-M" trailers and power cars being moved- aka Avelia Horizon, the next gen Duplex. There's 100 sets, which would more than replace the remaining single deck TGVs in the fleet and expand the...

Trivia: Stations that have other lines going to different places passing through them or next to them that do not have any platforms.

The junction with the east Suffolk line is just beyond the platform end at Oulton Broad North, but no platform is on that line, with Oulton Broad South almost a mile's walk away, over the other side of the river.

all state operators do advertising, sponsorship etc.

Trenitalia "Pop" train carries the Giro d'Italia trophy

A national railway operator sponsoring a race that visits most of the country, to promote the country, is weird? Major bike races art all about tourism and travel, something a railway operator has a big interest in!

Discussion about TOPS allocations in the context of recent locomotive orders

Much as I'd like this too, what would the economic impetus be? The reality is that it would be a huge amount of cost for (as far as I can see) no return other than "making things neater for enthusiasts"

Grand Union approved for Cardiff to London open access by ORR from December 2024

Looking here there is no sign of a new formal application

    Wet tunnels

the grand daddy of all under-river tunnels, the Thames Tunnel on the East London Line, has four pumps, of which any single pump can deal with the normal level of leaking

Discussion about TOPS allocations in the context of recent locomotive orders

TOPS has always had odd stuff floating around, and class numbers reused, and is basically all a mess anyway. There's been no Class 99 ship in almost 38 years (they went off the system when Sealink was sold).

Glasgow Central High Level listed building consent application

they would no doubt argue that the net advertising space is roughly the same as old poster boards and a leaflet rack are going. But then the screens aren't going in the same place.

Glasgow Central High Level listed building consent application

oh indeed. with the removal of the hanging "cube", I wonder if there is a structural issue with it or whether the maintenance of it is becoming too expensive?

Glasgow Central High Level listed building consent application

why be ngative and hazard a guess when you could simply click through, see the documents, and find out that you're wrong? these are the platform end units (the screens will show adverts, no speakers) the way finding units: do I like these? Nah. Doesn't seem great, and the way finding...

    C2C class 720 updates

I do wonder if, on the pre-pandemic thinking, the idea was that the LTS would not be their forever-home? That the 357s were first introduced 22 years ago, and thoughts may turn to replacing them say 2030 onwards, at which point it may have been though that GA could do with a fleet expansion...

New Reston Station - Progress & Updates

This is drifting off topic, but the Thameslink platforms aren't all straight- the St Pancras ones are for much of their length but have a surprisingly sharp curve at the south end. Farringdon they're neither straight nor level! But the low speed speed part does apply (slab track too, I think...

    Return of Flybe ?

right, but- connections are only of use if timed conveniently, and without code-share connections are a bit rubbish anyway

    French "Gares Maritimes"

yeah, Gare maritime is a term that in no way implies anything to do with railways- it is simply "sea station", like "gare Routière" is "road station" and "gare de chemin de fer" is "railway station". on which, looking at maps Gare Maritime Orsetti, at Sete (with ferries to Morocco and Algiers)...

    Barking - Gospel Oak

it'll reduce it, but won't remove the conflict with trains running in the same direction

    Return of Flybe ?

Heathrow-Leeds Bradford seems a very odd use of a Heathrow slot, given that Simple Flying states "no direct competition" there's very strong indirect competition for London-Leeds in the form of rail. 3x daily is only of use for connections if those 3 flights are at convenient times

Could we see enhanced fequencies on the Hertford East branch?

no, sorry, got that wrong- it would be 14-16tph at the intermediate Lea Valley stations, of which 10-12tph would be Crossrail 2 and 4tph Stratford to ??? services. Tottenham Hale was down as 27tph of which 15tph would be CR2.
