    This train http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/G00649/2015/05/20/advanced changes from Main Line to Electric (ie the slow) at Ilford by using the Up Avoiding line. I think a few trains are pathed over the avoiding lines to check signalling and keep railhead rust-free.

    How many turntables still out there?

    The turntable at Swanage is just 50 foot. It is not used to turn locos, just swivels to give access to the loco shed as the tracks do not align.

    Find the location on a decent map. If the crossing is a public right of way over the railway lines you will be OK.

    Thanks for all replies, so route learning it is. Seems a lot of journeys just to learn Barking Station Junction to Platform 7, leaving Upney Junction to East Ham depot via Platform for other times. I wonder what the regular LO users from Barking think about the unpredictable platform use?

    I have noticed that on Saturdays, some GOBLIN trains terminate at and start from platform 7 at Barking rather than the usual platform 1. These are not using East Ham depot. Can anyone explain this practice?

    'Variable Direction' signs at Bank

    At Bank, the direct route between Northern Line platforms and street is closed from mid evening on weekdays and throughout the weekend so passengers must use the longer routes passing near the Central Line platforms. Are the direction arrows changed to show this?
