Happy Ticket - splitting tickets at Arlon

The Happy Ticket promotion (ending today, but no doubt similar to future ones) states "Pas combinable avec un billet international". I used it from Brussels to Arlon. I also bought a Arlon to Luxembourg day return ticket. Is the "non combinable" rule ever enforced?

You're at Notting Hill Gate and want to go to Kings Cross with heavy luggage

You're at Notting Hill Gate with heavy luggage and want to go to Kings Cross. How can you know whether the next train will arrive on platform 2 at Edgware Road or platform 3? Platform 3 involves steps and platform 2 doesn't. If you know it's platform 3, you can wait for the following train.

Underground destination tickets changing at Stevenage on trainsplit

Grand Central missed connection - do you have to wait 4 hours?

There is a cheap Advance ticket Sheffield - Doncaster - London on weekdays. Arriving Doncaster 11:55 with a 9 minute connection to the 12:04 Grand Central service. After that there is no Grand Central service before 16:22 - so if you miss the 12:04 do you have to wait 4 hours?

York ticket office closed 2 hours early today plus questionable signage?

York ticket office had a temporary sign saying closing at 19:30 instead of the advertised 21:30. In addition, the ticket office door states "When ... closed, a full range of tickets may be purchased on the train or at the self-service machines". (not as a temporary sign). My understanding of...

£6,000 per year to get between Stratford and Colchester - any splitting opportunities?

It looks like Greater Anglia are playing hardball with the poor commuter below, so any tips on saving a bit of money on her commute between Stratford and Colchester so she can pay her fine? (I don't know the person but if there are big savings to be made it would worth letting her know on twitter)

Saarbruecken to Strasbourg on the tram train

I was in Saarbruecken and bought a local trains ticket to Strasbourg, but then missed the train. I then found out that while there aren't many trains from Saarbruecken, there is a regular tram train that takes you to the border. Was my train ticket valid on the tram train? Thanks

Forbidden from using power socket in station waiting room

I was charging my phone in a waiting room and was told by a burly security guy that I was not allowed to do that. The socket was next to an out-of-use vending machine. The waiting room was probably designed before mobile phones and definitely before people had train tickets on their phones...

Cleethorpes toilets are free but require a valid train ticket

Cleethorpes toilets are free but require a valid train ticket to be shown at the ticket office (which isn't open all the time) who will issue an access code. This applies also to people requiring the accessible toilet. Do any other stations do this? Does anyone wish to share the access code on...

Sexism on the railway? Scholars and angels

I observed a guard on LNR/WMR doing a ticket check by going round congratulating people who showed him a correct ticket by calling them Gentleman or Scholar (for a man) or Angel (for a woman). This had the rather nice effect of entertaining people and slightly embarrassing those who didn't have...

Split tickets, getting ticket office to reserve seats throughout

I've bought a split ticket for a table of 4 people and the reservations are such that we have to move carriages twice (same train throughout) for a 5 hour XC journey. How likely is it that a ticket office will do this?

Cancellation Euston to Chesterfield on a LNR&XC ticket but Virgin wouldn't help

A friend was travelling from Euston to Chesterfield on a LNR&XC ticket which implies a change at Tamworth. She was aiming for the 1946 service from Euston but that was cancelled beyond Rugby. There was then no way of making that journey on LNR&XC as far as I know. a. At around 1930, she asked...

Are there any Rovers covering Sheffield and Lancaster across 4 days or so? Ideally for less than the Freedom of the North West for £79.50 (which doesn't even cover Sheffield). Too young/old for any age-related discounts/Railcards. The Northern Rail newspaper offer was perfect for this but...
