Yes I'm aware, but my point was that currently the 231s are working Rhymney / Bargoed - Barry Island services, and will be for many months yet as we wait for the full introduction of the 398s, so to allow 231s to run on the VoG whilst we're waiting for the heavily delayed introduction of the...
If TfW does now have surplus 150s (which is hard to believe as the VoG could benefit from strengthened services throughout the day) then TfW could sub-lease 'spare' 150s to GWR, as Nothern did to TfW a few years ago.
Or just get on with training mainline crews on 231s so those can finally be put on VoG services?
A Modern Railways article in August / September quoted TfW as saying that a "small number of 150s" in the best condition would be kept going for VoG services until all of the 398s entered service and...
There will be cross-border services from England into Scotland & Wales, that are currently operated by GWR, Avanti & LNER, and these services will be specified by the DfT, so will be operated by GBR.
But other than those services, all other GBR services will be England only. But there's also the...
Any pragmatic UK Government would've realised that the lines to Penarth, Barry & Bridgend via the Vale are part of a wider through running network from the Valleys and given Network Rail the funding to electrify and upgrade those lines to create a joined up network........
Devolution means that in the 21st century, there won't be such a thing as a single, unified railway in the same way that BR was until sectorisation in the 1980s.
There will be devolved railway operations in Scotland, Wales, London and Manchester, with likely more devolved operations under...
The brand name "Rail Britain" or "Rail England" would've been a much better name, or even better, just keep the existing franchise / regional identities under government ownership.
But since 2016 everything has had to be "Great Britain" and "world beating" etc.......
Well at least it'll be easy for "normal passengers" to compare the rail operations of England, Scotland and Wales now.
I'm convinced that if the NHS was proposed today, it'd be named something ridiculous like "the Great British Health Service" and we'd have union flags on all hospital buildings.
Could this extension for the 158s be because TfW anticipate more delays to their full new fleet entering service?
The 398s keep getting pushed back, and we know the final fleet allocations in the south are dependent on 398s entering service. The 231s can't enter service on the mainline until...
From reading the press statement, there's no extra mainline capacity as part of the funding announcement? No extra mainline platforms, no provision to bring back platform 5 for terminating services from the west (which was allowed for in the Cardiff Area Signalling Renewal in the 2010s, but was...
Most of that route is already a cycle route - from the estate opposite Cosmeston to Penarth Station is a tarmaced, linear park known locally as the "railway walk".
Unless VoG Council also want to develop the trackbed of the old line beyond Cosmeston through Lavernock?
I'm pretty sure the 398s are due to start on Pontypridd to the Bay early next year. The introduction of TfW's full fleet into service depends now on getting the 398s into passenger service. The remaining 150s can't go on forever (without someone paying to keep them in service).
TfW have teamed up with a comedian to make this pretty accurate advert for social media

An obvious candidate for tram extension is the Penarth line to Sully. There's going to be a huge housing development (500+ homes) at Upper Cosmeston Farm on Welsh Government owned land in the coming years, and the only public transport is a twice hourly bus, at irregular intervals, from Barry to...
Some minor timetable changes for the 'South Wales Metro' area in December, including an hourly Sunday service for Penarth - Coryton and 3 extra services after midnight on Fridays from Cardiff up to Treherbert, Aberdare and Merthyr Tydfil
TfW's record on the VoG line has shown it's not a priority for them.
Hourly 2-car 150s (and every 2 hours on Sundays) are still likely to be the norm on the VoG line next Spring/Summer when those flights start.
