The Pinnacle of British Train Driving

That's why you should be paying into BRASS! No driver should pay top rate tax, simply pay the excess into your pension as an AVC and claim your 40% tax relief.

    Route learning

I agree it will probably never happen re. guards but as part of my drivers course we spent an hour in an IECC and an hour in an AB box, I'm not sure if they still do it but it was a good experience. I don't see why guards can't have one trip up front then count it towards their route learning...

    Route learning

I am a driver and actually think it would be quite beneficial for guards to have at least one trip up front whilst in training or as part of their route learning. We could then point things out from our point of view and it would help the guards see why we get tetchy at certain things, for...

    Grand Central advice please

Thanks for the replies and the PMs for those that sent them. I think I will apply, in all honesty I would LOVE to drive for GC :D

    Grand Central advice please

Hello all, I am tempted into applying for the qualified driver jobs at Bradford but am a bit worried about GC going the way of Wrexham and Shropshire. Its fair to say I would be leaving a stable TOC but I like the idea of working for GC. If it was a franchised TOC I wouldn't think twice. Are...

    Signal Query

Sorry but that is simply not true, distance signals revert to their most restrictive aspect after a train has passed, not once it has reached the stop signal... Even modern banner repeaters go back before the associated signal as the train passes.

    Northern Rail Vacancies

Could be internal transfers, or maybe some extra work which had been predicted hasn't materialised. Presumably there was a course planned, I wonder if its still going ahead for other depots? Its unfortunate for those who have spent time applying for Darlo though. Maybe you should ask for your...

    Interview and job advice

As with all things I guess it depends on your situation and how keen you are to get on. I will always recommend Northern as an employer (although I am not a cleaner so cant speak for them) and its worth remembering that all our cleaners (TPO's) are in house - that is you work for Northern, not a...

    SWT driver assessment

I also applied in November for Bournemouth, just rang and spoke to a very friendly and helpfull lady who said that they are concentrating on London at the moment and that the South Coast depots' sifting and beyond is due to commence shortly. Worry not!

    Northern Rail Vacancy

I would have thought it means that they are reviewing the need for the vacancy to be filled (for example, after restructuring,) or that it has been filled by other means (for example, if someone has had to be taken off another role for, say, medical reasons.) Best idea is to keep ringing HR once...
