    Apprenticeships on the railway

Northern offer engineering apprenticeships at Neville Hill, I would suggest emailing their HR for info. I have also seen DBS offer them for Doncaster and Scunthorpe so email them too. Actually what I would suggest is the best idea for yourself would be to email every TOC/FOC in the area where...

Trying to PM you but you need 5 posts I think as it won't let me. I can PM others who have 5 posts though. Get posting!

    New qualified Driver

RDW depends on company, some allow it, some don't. RD's are supposed to be evenly split but as a newbie you will generally sign less routes/traction (depending on depot of course) so if anything are less likely to get RD's. Gettig paid less doesn't come into it at all.

    Selection Tests Changing..

I think people are getting hung up on the idea of 3mph under here, the issue isn't whether 3mph under would cause you to lose time (it won't and who cares if it did,) but whether you can stay awake and alert enough, possibly with distractions, to keep your speed to a consistent 60mph. If it was...

    So..... has anyone heard anything?

    Selection Tests Changing..

Totally agree with Silv, 3 hours on a sim just trying to keep to 60mph would be horrendous. Plus I think it'd be trickier than in real life as you don't get a feel for accelerating/decelerating or any gradients. If it just decides that you are going uphill and you start slowing down your...

    Selection Tests Changing..

I have heard the same although 3 hours is absurd, it would probably be an hour at the most. The problem is that simulators are expensive bits of kit and instructors are expensive employees and you can only do one candidate at a time. Would take an entire day just to do 8 or 9 candidates and that...

    Southeastern... suspicious letter...

Dear Sir, Please find enclosed a letter purporting to be from your office which was received by myself on (date.) Unfortunatley, judging by the numerous errors and inaccuracies in the letter, which I have kindly highlighted for you, it appears that somebody is using the good name of...

    Questions for the qualified drivers..

This depends entirely on which TOC you want to move back to. Firstly, don't worry about having a career limiting incident. The serious ones (SPADs, collisions) are actually quite rare and you are unlikely to have one in your first couple of years. Also, depending on the company you wish to...

    Selection Tests Changing..

I wonder if the emergence of practise software has contributed in some way to this decision? (If it is taken.) The point of two strikes and you're out is so you can't learn how to pass. Clearly that is no longer the case.

    Jobs on the railways

For the most part you don't need to do any courses to get onto the railway, the operating companies will train you to the required standard. There are a lot of ex forces on the railway and managers like them for obvious reasons, discipline, used to doing as they're told, use of safety critical...

    Which Union?

It is now part of the Unite union.

    Which Union?

Yep, and it saddens me that bitter and ignorant people like that work in our industry.

    Which Union?

Some of the vitriol directed towards ATCU is frankly disgraceful. I had some irksome member of platform staff have a go at me once for joining ASLEF (like it's anybody's business but mine,) but she was gracious enough to say "At least you're not in that ............. ..... Union ATCU" (anybody...

Ah right. I heard that for Knottingley but wasn't sure about everywhere else.

    Trainee drivers at DB schenker

There were plenty of people doing the interviewing, it was the relevant Area Production Managers who were doing them. Are you sure that info wasn't specific to a certain depot?

    Which Union?

I believe Silv is joining Northern, no RDW sanction and has been like that for years.
  20. B

    Which Union?

Yes that is also very true. I don't agree with it however and won't participate in blackballing someone just because they worked through a strike. Doesn't always happen like that though. Some moron called someone a scab on facebook during a strike a few years ago....
