Mail Rail @ The Postal Museum

Given that Down St. LTM Hidden London tickets sell out on the release day at £85.50 + booking fee, there is a market for such tours. The Post Office Museum would quite like that I think.

Mail Rail @ The Postal Museum

I was comfortable in a short sleeve in the tunnels. By the looks of it new ventilation has been installed in the parts handed over to the museum. There were doors sealing off rail access to the rest. Talking to the staff, the PO still have 'running rights' through so the points can still...

Mail Rail @ The Postal Museum

No idea about the tickets, but the museum exhibits building is across the road and a just a bit up from the mail rail entrance - which was the mail rail depot. Being a sponsor I had a preview ride and a walk down the Mount Pleasant tunnels last week. A most enjoyable time. The other tunnels...

Engineering work this Saturday not in Journey Planner yet

The times are now in http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk (other journey planners a available). I don't remember seeing the Engineering notice for Saturday before a week ago so it all looks quite last minute. There might well be good reasons for an exception to the normal 12 weeks notice, but at...

Engineering work this Saturday not in Journey Planner yet

You make plans for this Saturday, check the Journey Planner - all ok. Then you happen to see an engineering work notice: It does not say this is Emergency late notice Engineering work, so how is the engineering work schedule not in the system yet?

    Parcels on Trains

I used to catch on off peak commuter service that also did the internal post run for the stations down the line. He would take over a row of seats for his mail pouches and posters and hand them over to a waiting platform staff at the stops. A bit greener than driving a van around London I suppose.

Southeastern to Waterloo Mainline (29/8~1/9/17, next Xmas 2017)

After last weekend T3 on the Waterloo Curves the usual NODC comment is now not there on the Berths. So it could be live now, or the signaler just forgot to add it back in :) Not seen any test train STP's yet.

    Southeastern Unadvertised Express

I believe it to save the driver having to check the train is empty late at night at Hayes, which is an un-staffed station. They go fast to London Charing Cross, or Lewisham, which are staffed 24h for the checks before going out of service.

If it helps Google Earth has 1945 Aerial photos of London (select view->historical imagery) which are useful to show the OS maps in context with the mired of lines and goods yards in the area at the time. You can see the outline of the dog kennels where the SELCHP is now. Also useful for...

    Kent Freight Routings

It may not be related, but part of the fence has been removed and they are doing something access wise down from the ramp from Lewisham station. Given the previous comments about the 'temporary bridge' there is so much concrete and steal work in it, it would have been a major job to demolish...
