A sinkhole has been discovered with voiding of the main lines between Teignmouth and Dawlish. Can’t see a reopening anytime soon.

I would think Monday is most likely, a lot is going to depend on the cliffs between Teignmouth and Parsons Tunnel.

Again, it's the parapet that prevents sea water washing away the railway. I guess they could use sandbags to patch the section of wall to secure the railway though.

Depends what time you travel. Anything come down from London will be spun at Exeter to go back up. There will also be sets at Exeter for the start of service.

The unit will be in Goodrington Yard but the crossing will have been opened once repairs were completed.

Permanent resilience from major damage to the infrastructure. ie the route can quickly be reopened following a storm rather then long closures for repairs.

With one line open through Dawlish they’re picking up delays so I guess some will be turned at Newton Abbot

Surely this proves all you need to start with is trained instructors? There is little point in having trained crew when you don't have enough serviceable 175's to keep there competence up

Out of engine hours. They’d need significant amounts of work in terms of both time and money to extend their life and further. I think it’s highly unlikely a 175 will be in passenger service tomorrow but you never know.

The training isn’t the issue. The condition of the 175s was, and still is, the issue.

It hasn’t been handled badly by GWR. GWR have been left with no choice.
