I’ve given up on Google Maps and moved to Apple now. Consistently, Google Maps has no idea about road closures at night, but Apple does.
Also, the app is so buggy. “Alerts only” audio mode has been moved into the settings now, instead of a tap on the navigation screen (oh, and it keeps turning...
Which also looks very cheap and tacky, with the 'n' logos floating around.
I would have thought at this point all new liveries would be very plain and basic, until the new GBR establish a new/standard livery? In the vein of the 390 livery towards the end of Virgin Trains.
It’s the same with the 444s on longer-distance work. A one-minute dwell at Basingstoke and Winchester in the evening peak services is fantasy-land.
It’s quite eye-opening how slow things can be. It can often be 30+ seconds between doors closing and the train starting to move. That adds up over...
Great news the offer is continuing. The credit will quickly pay off the Uber One cost.
Yes, the web view in the app is clunky, but the credits are worth it. For me, the customer support has been great. They have even refunded advances for me, which is more than what is offered by Trainsplit...
I wouldn’t mind if the weekend closures resulted in infrastructure that worked perfect for the rest of the week. But that’s obviously not the case. Track circuit failure for two mornings in a row in Basingstoke. Other signalling issues today on the same line closer to Weymouth.
The ORR were...
The thing is, it's not that low a volume. Class 444 trains have excellent speakers (unfortunately), and the volume often reaches 87+ db. And when the announcements can last the entire way from Waterloo to Clapham Junction, and then for two minutes after every stop, it gets too much. I used to...
Delightful news. The only way is up. According to RecentTrainTimes, over the past six months, my SWR train is on time 5% of the time. Now a change of management may not be the panacea to the abysmal performance on the South West mainline, but a change is needed nonetheless.
I think this is a general attitude thing with SWR. The amount of both automated and manual on-board safety announcements repeated after every stop, is not matched by any other operator I've travelled with.
Confusingly, if you look on the London Northwestern website under the 'Problems Reported' section, there is an update from this morning at 08:58 saying that Avanti services can be used as far as Crewe
I'm looking forwards to playing the dance of 'That's an off-peak LNR ticket, this is a peak time train' with the Avanti Euston gateline this evening...
I think there needs to be a more intelligent fare strategy in place on the WCML, to help grow revenue, but I don't think the LNER strategy is that. Case in point: yesterday evening, around 6pm, I travelled southbound on a 5-coach Evero train from Crewe to London. The thing was absolutely empty...
I’ve found since e-tickets have been more adopted, I get far less hassle using CCST. Guards and barrier staff see the orange card and don’t even bother reading it 90% of the time.
Saves questions about unusual splits, (validly) using off-peak tickets at traditional peak times, it’s great! Will...
It is a bit rubbish being unable to correct incomplete journeys. Both Waterloo and City line readers bugged out on me on exit, and I can see from my bank transaction that I got charged a lot more than usual. But at this time, one can't fix contactless journeys.
I found myself in the same situation. I emailed my retailer, Trainsplit, and they offered to refund one passenger's tickets, as long as I booked the same journey for one person.
Think of all the money to be saved by just having one identity, rather than coming up with 15 or so different ones. Ok, you have the word “Intercity” stuck on the relevant trains. But why does GBR need to be more than that?
You probably don't even need a rebranding exercise either. Just use the new branding when new timetables and posters printed, trains need their corrosion works and are repainted, etc... save the cash for more urgent railway-related spending.
Thanks for your input everyone; I honestly thought "that's life", but it seems from the feedback that Avanti should have been able to help. Unfortunately, what can you do in that situation? If someone is dismissing you and saying "buy a new ticket", I'd be wary of standing my ground, for fear of...
