Thanks. Carstairs makes perfect sense now.
Still not sure about the Sheffield example when two loco hauled trains come in the same way. I assumed they arrived on the same platform, but do you mean they arrived in adjacent ones?
...then the loco was removed from the front of one, with a...
Have they all been released now for journeys up until September, and when theyre gone theyre gone.
The reason I ask is I have a trip to London from Leeds on the cards at the end of August but wont be able to confirm I'm definitely going until near the end of July. Will they keep releasing these...
This used to happen quite a lot, but Im wondering how they did it.
Well, more specifically, the joining.
For example at Carstairs, a train would come in from Glasgow, and one from edinburgh would arrive from the opposite direction. How did this then become one train with one loco pointing...
I agree with the idea of closing Cottingley and opening a station at WRC. But I think you may exaggerate the number of potential users.
Meadowhall has 9 or 10 trains an hour to Sheffield. WRC could only have two to Leeds (TPE wouldnt stop there so close to Leeds). Also Meadowhall is an...
I contacted LM because my journey involves LM trains between Worcester and Crewe (then VT to Piccadilly).
The tickets were the same price to Kiddemrinster as they were to Smethwick GB. So in effect I got the Smethwick to Kidderminster part for free. Just cant see any logical reason why they...
Ive emailed London Midland about this but perhaps someone here can explain :
Want to travel from Manchester to Worcester return next weekend.
There are advance tickets in both directions (£7.50 and £13.50) from Manchester to Kidderminster, but when entering Worcester, about 12 miles...
Theres a proposal for an "East Leeds Parkway" at, or very near to, the site of the current Micklefield station.
Seems a no-brainer. Right next to the motorway, and a frequent service of Northern and TPE trains to get you into Leeds in about 15 mins.
So obviously it will never be built.
Isnt this possible? A bit of a pain doing it, but the train could arrive at Nuneatons "new platforms" to drop off passengers, proceed up the line to the point where the old route into Nuneaton joins, the driver swaps ends, then proceeds down into Nuneatons platform 1 on the freight/slow line...
You may well be right Matt. I suppose my point was, extra stops can be found in a timetable, whether the TOC want it or not, due to the slack thats built in and pathing issues.
For instance, XC could stop those Plymouth trains at Filton Abbey Wood with no impact to their timetable should they...
No its the Plymouth trains. The stoppers leave Parkway about 7 mins in front of them and call at Filton, Lawrence Hill and Stapleton Road, so they cant be speeded up.
As for the second point, XC have introduced stops at Lydney and Chepstow on some of their NOT-CAR trains, simply because they...
Im sure you know more about this than me, but surely speeding up services impacts upon paths and other services just as much as adding extra stops?
For example XC trains are timetabled for 15 mins between Bristol Parkway and Temple Meads (9 mins in the opposite direction), but they cant...
Its timetabled for 12/13 mins longer via weston, presumably to take into account the slower line speed, the stop at the station itself and any pathing issues on the single line sections.
It would be possible to do Birmingham - Worcester - Bristol in 1hr33, only a few mins longer than the direct...
Not quite true. There are 2 northbound services through Weston and 1 southbound.
The southbound via Weston leaves Temple Meads at 11.15 and gets to Taunton at 12.00 (45 mins). The standard time for direct trains to Taunton is 32 mins.
Similarly the 2 northbound trains via Weston do...
I wasnt expecting a lot of new services. Just a better spacing of the current ones and some improved journey times.
Hourly in the morning and evening peak to Worcester, 2 hourly during the day, with trains taking about 2h 15 to Shrub Hill. This should be EASILY achievable with the new...
I agree that Gloucester is a spur off the main line, while Worcester is a whole loop. However with the reversal required at Gloucester, the time penalty to serve either city is roughly the same, approx 15 minutes, which is why XC are reluctant to serve either.
Though I do think theres an...
Really? Why then were they keen to divert all Doncaster trains to Leeds, adding 15/20 mins onto the journey? Surely that shows their focus is revenue/capacity, not speed.
Not in the current diagram, no.
But the current timetable is a mess, no standard departure times, big and small gaps, some trains Turbo, some HST.
With the re-doubling I'm hoping for a much better planned timetable, and there'd be the potential, in theory, to run 2 or 3 trains a day to/from...
