Class 701 'Aventra' trains for South Western Railway: progress updates

Good news in theory, but I'm not confident it will make much difference on the ground given they can't even reliably run the current diagrams.

TfL considers increasing e-scooter speed limit and decreasing age limit

As are cars, and they are completely unlimited. I would guess that e-scooters (and bikes) would be less likely to ride on the pavement if they were able to safely ride in traffic - 20mph would help this.

SWR outgoing Metro fleet withdrawals (complete)

Good that it's effectively one in one out there so hopefully shouldn't mean any additional short forms. Is this something we're likely to see more of in the near future? Is the stock shortage on SWR likely to get worse before it gets better?

TfL considers increasing e-scooter speed limit and decreasing age limit

I'm not against that, probably even up to 20mph so they can keep up with traffic. The priority for these though has to be some proper legislation, rather than fiddling around with hire schemes.

SWR Class 458 to be retained

Possibly the current staffing pressures have slowed things down? The additional stock is still desperately needed.

Unsafe footbridge closes half of South Bank station

I don't know the area concerned at all but can't they just stick up a temporary scaffold footbridge?

Class 701 'Aventra' trains for South Western Railway: progress updates

There are some booked single units now in to Waterloo (which is a ridiculous situation), although I doubt the frequent cancellations make doubling up any easier. Is there a date for the next all day 701 diagram to be introduced?

UK switching to electric vehicles discussion

I'm not technical at all, but as I understand it there was a bad cell (they did tell me which one it was) which was swapped out. I don't know what the actual issue with it was, whether that was false information generating the warning or if it was actually overheating.

SWR Class 458 to be retained

It will be interesting to see. The trend across other TOC seems to be give up diversionary knowledge, fail to provide adequate rail replacement and tell passengers not to travel during engineering work. Given the financial situation that's the cheapest option.

UK switching to electric vehicles discussion

I've finally got my car back! :D It was a faulty module which needed swapping out. Great that is was a relatively simple fix but it took far too long to do. Really pleased to have it back though and after two months I'd forgotten how nice it was to drive compared to ICE. Anecdotally I have...

Class 701 'Aventra' trains for South Western Railway: progress updates

I can see merit in both sides of this but I think I disagree on this one. SWR have let things get so bad that the priority now has to be ramping up the 701 introduction as quickly as possible - that's the only way to relieve the issues and I would acceot some short term pain in the form of...

SWR Class 458 to be retained

Yes, a tidy profit for the company carrying out the conversion, and presumably also for the ROSCO who got the lease extended. No benefit for passengers though.

Class 701 'Aventra' trains for South Western Railway: progress updates

Totally agree with this. SWR should just be getting on with it quickly and quietly. Especially as there are likely to be problems ahead given the lack of units actually fit for passenger service. It IS good news that there is another diagram now though.

Project Oval: TfL win DfT contract to expand contactless system to 233 rail stations by May 2024, Railcards coming to contactless payment cards

Is there any update on this? The posters at Ashford still have the 22nd September on them so anyone turning up at the station could reasonably expect to be able to tap in and travel, in the absence of any information to the contrary.

Class 701 'Aventra' trains for South Western Railway: progress updates

I misunderstood your post as meaning ASLEF had only agreed 3 were fit for passenger service. Pretty poor so few are ready but given the fiasco it's been so far I guess we shouldn't be surprised. Given how long some of the units have been in storage I hope there's not any major work required or...

Class 701 'Aventra' trains for South Western Railway: progress updates

From an ASLEF perspective what is stopping the units used for driver training from entering passenger service? I can't imagine they could care less about the passenger areas.

Class 701 'Aventra' trains for South Western Railway: progress updates

Thanks. I do get the reasons for it, and hopefully things will ramp up more quickly now anyway. Out of interest is that the only Windsor diagram that starts and ends at Wimbledon Park? Or could they have chosen another (not that it would necessarily have made any difference to my point).

UK switching to electric vehicles discussion

Not sure about this. The only free charging I've come across is the 7kw ones - equivalent to a home charge point. These take far too long if you are an Uber driver. I would agree they do take over the fast charging points - but the answer there is to provide more of them.

Class 701 'Aventra' trains for South Western Railway: progress updates

Good news, and if the diagram posted is right then it will be my train home! :D My one moan would be that they are avoiding the busiest period of both peak travel directions with this diagram - and SWR should be concentrating the few remaining 10 carriage trains on the busiest services. 10...

    Uber ticketing

I've just come across this after searching for the query myself. Really frustrating not being able to add the tickets to Google wallet. My Uber credits are taking a while to be added now too - anyone else having the same issue?
