    Harcroft Route Update

Rich, the transparency problems may be because you've left one or two textures in 24 bit format, which some cards don't like. They include TunEntS.bmp in the Ground folder and the Stagecoach bus textures.

    Does length matter?

Although I've answered the poll, in fact my preference changes depending on my mood and the time available, so variety of length is something I look for in a set of routes. Stopping pattern is another thing that can be varied - sometimes 'all stations' is too much like hard work and I just want...

    Another problem!

Just to put things in context, Edinburgh-Aberdeen is a very long route by BVE standards: the HST run occupies nearly 210MB of RAM when loaded. So it isn't surprising that it causes difficulties for some users! BTW, I get the same syntax error with both the 170 and HST routes. Has anyone...

    A 142 cab?

I'm pretty sure the bounciness of a vehicle in BVE4 is a function its length: the relatively short class 37 (18.7m) is much more bouncy than the average 23m MU car. Some experimenting is called for by the Leyland-National-on-a-wagon-underframe fans (also some custom flange squeal).

    '' Violated the signal ''

Not a flaw as such, just BVE2 modelling Japanese practice.

    Sound Compression

Depends - if you're thinking of doing one of the sciences at Uni., you *really* need to keep up the maths. On the other hand, at least in my day (pre-Cambrian), you could do A-level Physics on O level maths, so you might be ok. Don't know what they teach you at GCSE these days though.

    Maybank extensions

Interesting map, Jordy. I wonder if NWM can include walking routes (with extra stops in late Friday night versions)?

    Hello New Member

That looks like BVE2 to me LondonBVE. I can't say which version, but it's not 2.9 which was a full screen version like BVE4. Mackoy explained why he had skipped 3 when he released BVE4: it lost a lot in translation, but it was to do with the amount of rewriting between 2.9 and 4.

Keys not working in NR trains

I've responded to Dave in your guestbook, Steve. Edit: looks like he might have the wrong keyboard configuration selected under options.

    HST BVE4 & Richwel;l Updates

Eeek! That's even lower than mine and my graphics card runs on coal. You might also consider more memory as a relatively cheap way to improve things as the .NET framework seems to think it's a limitless resource and behaves accordingly. I find things can often be smoother after a reboot, too...

    HST4 Semi-Fast [MERGED]

We found during beta testing that a smouldering mixture of cardboard and sardines works quite well, but is difficult to synchronise with the brakes.

    Dry to Wet

It's also helpful if you run BVE4 in windowed mode as you can then view the route code at the same time. As well as the rain beacon, you should find .brightness and .fog commands at the start and end of tunnels. Tony has put in a lot of effort into the rainy routes and a few of the features...
