Yes, sounds sensible. That would recover a lot of time. Also you could swap the order of doing some of the branches if there was a delay on one line, then do another on instead after which hopefully any delay might have cleared. Of course most of the time the Merseyrail system does run...

Looks like a good plan to me. The only extra thing I would suggest is some sort of "plan B" in case of any delays. i.e. cutting short or missing out part of the network in order that you can still get home that night. Of course I sincerely hope that everything runs on time for you on the day...
