    Thameslink Services/Timetable from May 20th 2018

It is quite clear. GTR have said they need 790 drivers for the new timetable. and they have 890 available. Therefore there will not be any cancellations because drivers are not available. From Monday PPM will be in the high 90s%.

    Platform ticket challenge at Leeds

It is a bit like immigration when you enter this country. I find I am always asked some casual question about where I have been/what the weather was like etc. They don't care what answer you give but they do care about how you answer - your body language, your casual response etc. It tells them...

Has the Man in Seat 61 had his day?

I think you misunderstand my objections. It is not that he is anti-brexit (I can understand why he is). My objection is to using a factual site for political purposes. I would be just as unhappy if he was using his site for pro-GTR, pro-brexit, pro-Jeremy Corbyn, anti-Jeremy Corbyn etc. Once a...

Has the Man in Seat 61 had his day?

I have found Seat61 useful in the past, but I no longer use him since he started using his site to advertise his anti-Brexit views.

Trip to Isle of Wight with Hovercraft

There are many restrictions which a TVM imposes which can be overcome by buying online. Nothing illegal just much more convenient. For example I often travel with my wife from Basingstoke to Reading and we both have senior railcards. The first train we can get is the 0906. The TVMs won't sell...

    Thameslink Services/Timetable from May 20th 2018

So by accepting £10M the Dft have given Govia Thameslink an incentive to run as few trains as possible before October. This can be classed as a complete success. Bonuses and awards will no doubt be given to senior management in both the Dft and Govia for their achievements.

SWR Salisbury to Corfe Castle Saturday Summer Service

Perhaps Swanage Railway should get in ThamesLink as consultants to help sort out the mess.

Did he have several days growth of beard and looking undernourished?

Lisbon to Seville by train. Possible?

There is an alternative via Badajoz, but it cannot be done in one day. It would be best to break your journey in Badajoz. Some of these border towns are quite interesting. They are way off the usual tourist routes and are usually very cheap. I remember staying overnight in Guarda which few...

Season Ticket Changeover - proof of living/working in area

Yes I understand the additional scrutiny, but as I suggested there could be many alternative reasons for regularly travelling to a particular station and your reason may not be because you live or work there. A TOC should not be able to restrict the changeover to those 2 reasons. Any evidence of...

Season Ticket Changeover - proof of living/working in area

I don't understand why proof of residence or work is required. What if someone changing a season ticket provided evidence that their mother, psychiatrist, personal trainer, regular hooker, favourite restaurant etc were in the area? Would that be acceptable?

New SWR Smart ticket - observations

There is no need to worry. It will all be sorted within 7 months:

SWR Salisbury to Corfe Castle Saturday Summer Service

Even more a shame when you try to buy tickets, you can't!

How bad was your journey today?

The line from from New Beckenham to Beckenham Junction is a great opportunity. Well I would be pleased anyway.

    Great Northern Weekend Cancellations

Maybe they will be given their own slot for the next few weeks where they try to predict what tomorrow will be like - just like a weather forecast.

Island Line Railway - current state and the future

So the floating inspector will be on one of the 2 trains running, but BTP will be hanging about to board at any station as required? This isn't going to reduce costs at all.

Climate change: Would rail or road be more affected in the UK?

Seems like how winters always have been - periods of rain and times when temperatures dropped below zero. Nothing different there then.

Study to consider Borders Railway extension

I can understand why you don't believe the public sector would fund Carlisle to Hawick, but why do you think the Private Sector would? Have you any Private Sector companies in mind?

    Unrealistic Musing: "Coaster" Overnight Service

No it couldn't be a pacer. There would need to be an all night bar on a train like this. There aren't any pacers with bars - though thinking about it perhaps one could be upgraded?
