    SE 376's at Blackfriars today

I don't suppose anyone has taken any pictures to document this most momentous occasion? It's not every day you see a 376 at Blackfriars.

    Thameslink/ Class 700 Progress

Electrical, no. Software is the most likely guess. A lot of teething problems caused by new rolling stock is usually a result of software stubbornness - things that do not always rear their head during programming, software unit testing, emulation or even on the test track, and only start to...

    Thameslink/ Class 700 Progress

Just spotted 700114 sitting at Herne Hill on the outer platform, destined for Brighton. My slightly late running 2A32 CBW-VIC presumably got in the way. This is probably why the London Bridge routes are to be the favourite for TL services.

    Thameslink/ Class 700 Progress

Granted, the seating does somewhat feel like a step back when you compare it to what we had in the 377s. However, if you look at commuter rail of other modern cities, e.g. The Stuttgart S-Bah, which is run by DBAG 423s and 430s, the seating is actually quite comparable to what we are getting in...

Why is it called Milton Keynes Central?

On the same basis of making lookups easier, why are the Croydon stations therefore not "Croydon East" and "Croydon West"?

    Thameslink/ Class 700 Progress

I frequently use my 15 inch laptop on the journey in and out of London. Usually, I'm on a 375. Assuming it isn't of the /9 subclass, I go for one of the full size tables with 2+2 facing seats. A lot of people on my line do this. If I'm going to Blackfriars and it is a 377 or 387, then I can...

Is it a bit worrying that I saw your username and instantly thought "Royal Tunbridge Wells"?

    Electrostar GTR cascade

I might have been milking it a bit. :P But when you're frequently using one of those services in the afternoon rush, it does "feel" as though the majority of those services are done by Networkers, because that's all you experience. Regardless, the extra Electrostars will be a very welcome...

    Electrostar GTR cascade

Electrostars on the Maidstone line are something of an uncommon sight - you do see them occasionally, but you predominantly see 465/9s and 466s. This is especially true of the PM Peak services that are made of 6 or 8 coaches, and are usually rammed at least as far as Bromley and beyond. I am...

Is it that brighter pastel green version of the same logo? I've seen glimpses of it here and there.

Bromley South to Leatherhead Ticketing (Daily, Weekly and Monthly options)

So, the annual season for Bromley South to London Terminals is about £1,600 per year, and the annual for Leatherhead to London Terminals £2,184 per year on "Southern only". I may have an option for you, however... If you get the Leatherhead to London Zones 1-6 season for £2,860 per year, that...

Southern DOO: ASLEF members vote 79.1% for revised deal

Is this a reference to the new Class 700 fleet? If so, then I'm pretty sure that they've already got the buttons, as seen here.

    Class 387

They're incredibly similar units - I'd be very surprised if they couldn't. I don't know if a software modification would be necessary, but the only differences I can think of are the DOO side cameras that the 375s lack, and the interior CCTV monitors in the guard cabinets that the 377s seem to lack.

    Class 387 to GN

Back in the day, those 377/5s came off the back of a Southern order and only went to FCC out of necessity. When it was clear these weren't going to go back to Southern in time, along came the order for the /6s and /7s. I think the plan was very much for these units to return to Southern when...

    Thameslink/ Class 700 Progress

I shouldn't have said "tunnel" specifically - I only used it as an example, because things can go wrong anywhere. I'd still feel safer in one of these situations if there was more than one member of staff responsible for the safety of potentially 1,500 people. Probably a matter not for this...

    Thameslink/ Class 700 Progress

The failures are a bit concerning, but nothing new. All stock has problems now and again - nothing is perfect. I'm assuming that most of the faults are teething issues relating to the TMS being a bit over-protective and/or the drivers being unfamiliar as to how to rectify some of these issues...

    Bromley South P3

The crossover sees a lot of use in the AM Peak, for Victoria and TL services starting at Bromley. Platform 2 has also been used in the past to reverse trains due to start at Beckenham Junction where Platform 4 has been unavailable. I have also been told about the crossover being used in...

Who have been the best TOCs so far?

Another vote for Chiltern and SWT here. I haven't seen Southeastern mentioned much on here - the customers that use them seem to regard them as the "worst", but I wonder if the Kentish are just more vocal than others when it comes to dissatisfaction. They're my local operator, and at least...

    Class 376: no air-con

The windows would imply that some form of climate control is installed, because all of the passenger-operated windows have a T-key lock on them, similar to the 375s. The few times I've been on a 376, I can't say I've felt it was too hot. You never get that feeling of walking into a giant...

    South Eastern Victoria stock

They're still fitted. As to whether they work or if they're in any fit state, that's another story. All the other sub-classes do have the recess and could be retro-fitted if necessary. As for other trivia, the 375/3s are mostly used to run the Medway Valley services, but you will see one being...
