There's plenty of marketing comms on TOC web sites, mailings etc saying they are the cheapest but they aren't because of splitting. Red Spotted Hanky obviusly thought they could really hurt TTL by not charging fees. 4 and 1/2 years later (and who knows how many £££££s) they added a booking fee.

If you know a split option yourself and book on a TOC site, fair enough obviously. But, if Trainsplit finds a split saving you didn't know about, can I suggest in your own (and a load of others') long term interest you pay the "convenience fee". Trainsplit needs supporting. If it wasn't around...

Don't know. They could have been misconstrued. I can see them being concerned about the "average traveller" getting confused about taking different trains than they booked with their split tickets (if they have to). Maybe they are hoping the TOCs remove the "anomalies" and reduce prices...
