How often are passengers required to check the Routein' tootin' guide?

There is every 'excuse' when staff are not told about it and not issued with it. You can't have knowledge of something if you don't know of it's existence, which I didn't till I read about it on here.

Why all the phone barcode things suddenly?

No need for sarcasm. I genuinely didn't understand who you were talking about.

Why all the phone barcode things suddenly?

Perhaps if you quote we would know who you are referring to?!

If a ticket says "not London", can you use a "LONDON" route in the Routeing Guide?

Our company has various 'controls'. One is main control which monitors trains and issues affecting them eg points failures or train faults, and concentrates on keeping things running as they should; unit control works to get everything where it should be and knows what is where; maintenance...

Why all the phone barcode things suddenly?

It is showing off so much as like excited children in the playground proudly showing off the latest toy or gadget man at work, (we've all go one!) most of whose new gadgets are totally pointless for his circumstances. Basically it allows large quantities of data (is there a limit?) to be...

help and opinions on charge RE: privilege card

I'm not sure I understand your logic here. Lets take the 4 in 8. It is only to be used for four days, so not only should the guard check the date (I am amazed how many hide the ticket with the boxes under the ticket and how often they've travelled half the day without marking a date) but if he...

If a ticket says "not London", can you use a "LONDON" route in the Routeing Guide?

But do 99% of the travelling public know anything about any 'routing guides'?! (cos 99% of the staff don't!)

help and opinions on charge RE: privilege card

Very sad. I'm a post '96 entrant but don't even bother getting them to fill the boxes in. Most of us follow the unwritten rule that railway staff travel free. Barriers now prevent that - I have had staff chase me down the train asking me to please sell them a ticket! Sad.

If a ticket says "not London", can you use a "LONDON" route in the Routeing Guide?

As a guard of several years I am just shaking my head! Even total enthusiasts cannot agree on this, and as a guard equipped only with an Avantix I am clueless as to routing maps to be honest. I've always assumed "London" means a London terminal station, and avoiding any = not London. I don't...

ATW drivers told to wear Company tie

You are completely ignoring the situation where there is an agreement with the unions that it can be worn!

ATW drivers told to wear Company tie

Apparently there is no 'agreement' re the ties. I assume therefore that the drivers are making a point based on 'custom and practise' Dodgy ground, I'd suggest, as 'custom and practise' has been to wear the old bus drivers uniform for years, but that is going....

    Railways Perks & Pension

The perk of priv discount on most preserved railways was only alluded to in passing in an earlier post, re preserved (ex BR) staff. However, just to clarify, this is available to ATOC priv holders (ie new entrants) too.

    I do have a railcard..but I forgot it. Refund?

A point which has been made yet not refuted regarding buying two tickets: I know op was excessed, but say he had been sold a new SOS or SOR. That day he writes a letter of complaint and posts it off to customer services. The following day (the day after the tickets were valid) they receive...

ATW drivers told to wear Company tie

It really is utter garbage to suggest that (for reasons yet not fully clarified) a person wearing the union tie may be flouting other rules or more likely to do so. Why? Because we don't know why they are in this situation. I am hazarding a very educated guess that it is actually a well...

ATW drivers told to wear Company tie

On some trains..... Yes. But on others drivers are quite clearly visible, including most of the ATW stock. They also get approached by customers so are customer facing. I'm not sure what you are saying about guards: It's pretty obvious that they are more customer facing, that doesn't mean...

ATW drivers told to wear Company tie

Does the cab not have windows? Does the train not stop at stations? Do drivers not have to walk to and from the train and change ends etc? The driver is customer facing and visible to the public thus it is perfectly reasonable to want him to convey the image by wearing the FULL uniform.
