    Train driver mental health

Just to add that I would find it hard as a railway person or not to put a positive spin on a negative issue like strikes or fatalities.

    Train driver mental health

If you start a discussion on a fatality then don't criticise those who discuss areas of fatalities! How you can say this is an area you never intended to discuss I don't know, unless you don't understand how discussions work! For someone who had their 'last post' on the subject some time ago...

    Train driver mental health

I think the problem is some people here have been involved in fatalities which have affected their lives, and feel they are having that trauma belittled by those who haven't experienced it. If you got 50 car drivers in a room I would be surprised if one had experienced a fatal RTA. I could...

    Train driver mental health

I am amazed that those with nothing to add to the subject still insist on posting purely to criticise those that do, but there we go.

    Arriva Not Providing Alternative Transport

ATW are using the argument that the cost of living is less in Wales. The problem with this argument is that they have depots in Chester, Crewe and Shrewsbury, which are not in Wales. Anyone who knows Cheshire and Shropshire will know they are not particularly cheap places to live either, so if...

    Train driver mental health

Has someone else logged into your account then? You started this thread and simply don't like the responses. To be honest I feel you deserve (most of) the criticism you have had. I described a fatality earlier in this thread. Let me continue then with the graphic description. The guy was...

I shouldn't think you would! But I hope you would slate me for earning such an extremely outrageous amount regardless

The real facts behind the ATW potential strike please

I think Flamingo is saying that one minute you say you don't care the next you are wading in criticising staff's attitude and making derogatory comments about their intelligence etc. If you really don't care, yet you continue to post such comments, then one has to ask oneself why. Most...

    Arriva Not Providing Alternative Transport

I hope the conductors don't have to go the same way as the drivers. Most of us would accept a couple of opt-outs a year (ie if we can't find anyone at our depot to cover and we need the day off for a family event we can use an opt out and they could cover it from another depot or split the...

The real facts behind the ATW potential strike please

We all work on the railways so are obviously all militant no-nothing thickos who are completely divorced from reality, so any criticism of other members is invalid. Any criticism of us though must be correct though as (go to beginning) Bowing out now until someone else contributes something fresh.

No he thinks he is funny. There's a lot of us with no sense of humour though ;-)

The real facts behind the ATW potential strike please

what part of "THE MONEY IS THERE BUT IS BEING CHANNELLED INTO EXTRA PROFITS" do YOU not understand? There needs to be root and branch reform yes and if that means less funding nationally and reduced profits and wages and subsidies, that's something I would buy into, providing we all share...

The real facts behind the ATW potential strike please

I am coming to that conclusion now! Despite explaining how the shareholders and the profit margins have been good, I'm given a little lecture in capitalism and told the shareholders should get a return! Despite explaining how the wages have fallen in real terms whilst subsidies and fares have...

The real facts behind the ATW potential strike please

I will do. I can guarantee what I have said is correct though: that they will always need subsidy. If the government really intend to run only a railway that requires nil subsidy then that will never happen unless the network is decimated. If so I hope they invest in the roads and I hope you...

The real facts behind the ATW potential strike please

The problem is your points are over simple and don't actually hold up to scrutiny. The railway will always be supported by the taxpayer, therefore your comparisons with commercial operations (those in which if you don't make a profit your company folds and everyone loses their jobs) are not...

The real facts behind the ATW potential strike please

I don't see what point you are trying to make. You can't get a job with most coach or bus companies through an agency either. Yes you could take a PCV license privately, and I accept you can't go away and get a train drivers ticket independently. I still don't really get what you are saying...

The real facts behind the ATW potential strike please

That is factually incorrect. I was recruited externally as were most of my colleagues, from other industries and other employers, off the street, and went through the required training. ATW recruited trainee guards and drivers 'off the street' in the past 12 months to the wages you feel are so...

The real facts behind the ATW potential strike please

If he/she wants to use negative terms let them get on with it. They don't know all the facts and basically would be happy to do the jobs people are being paid £8, £10, £15, £20, £30 or more, for peanuts. He or she is happy to see others thrown out of jobs so that they can do them for much...

The real facts behind the ATW potential strike please

I've answered why your argument is flawed already. Ask yourself why, 20 years after the railway was privatised, are TOC's still recruiting drivers on 40-50k when there are 2.5 million unemployed when there have always been staff queueing up for the jobs? --- old post above --- --- new post...

The real facts behind the ATW potential strike please

Yes, I wouldn't disagree with that. Capacity could be improved in Wales with more rolling stock but we don't have it. And if things were different there probably would be lower wages in the long term. But they aren't and until things change the situation will continue.
