    Location

TOCs are, quite rightfully, wary of people claiming that they will relocate, as many will not a the last minute, leaving training courses with unfilled places. Why would they trust that somebody would move to a different region which they have no connection with? However, if the person you are...

    Train Driver Medical

    Congratulations!!! :)

    Train Driver Medical

At my TOC, if no further investigations were required, it was immediately in your presence. If any further investigations were required, these were detailed to you, and when satisfactory results were received from these, communicated via e-mail. I am aware from a previous thread, though, that...

Laptop or tablet used while in training

By the sounds of it, it depends on the TOC. At my TOC, there was no work required to be done on computer, laptop, tablet, phone or any other device. No members of my class (or any other class I know) brought any device to, or used during, training. We were provided with rule books, handouts...

    Real-time information on the train

It's never been demonstrated on any traction course I've been on and it doesn't appear in any Prep & Disposal manuals that I have. It doesn't surprise me that it is fitted but it needs to be added to prep and disposal manuals and needs to be included on prep, but I think it comes back to what I...

    Real-time information on the train

Thank you, @BrianW , I'm glad that you found my post informative. Thank you for mentioning the report of Rowlands Castle - I wasn't aware of it. I think the correct link is: https://www.gov.uk/raib-reports/report-06-slash-2021-near-miss-with-a-member-of-staff-at-rowlands-castle-station In...

    Real-time information on the train

As a driver, poor passenger information is a big bug-bear for my colleagues and I. Thank you for acknowledging that guards are usually concientious. This is true. I know I have seen the guard being shouted at by a passenger who claimed that no announcement was made that the train was not...

    RSSB Rule Book App log-in.

Thank you, @Highlandspring, for your message. Unfortunately, hearing about the large number of Network Rail staff who do not have access is not any consolation, but just even more concerning. I'm sure that I'm not missing much, and I'm sure that the most important stuff does get filtered down...

    RSSB Rule Book App log-in.

Regarding the Rule Book App on my smartphone, I was unable to register with this. Apparently my TOC don't subscribe to this. In my opinion, the RSSB's primary responsibility should be towards safety and not finances. It totally does not seem right that the RSSB refuses drivers who are willing...

Moving to passenger services from freight

Thanks, @Dieseldriver . It's great to hear that you have similar positive experiences with passengers / the public. There are some drivers who seem to think that the public are a huge inconvenience to the running of the railway, and these drivers are the ones who seem to have the most negative...

Moving to passenger services from freight

Hi, I'm not really answering your question, but might be recalibrating your expectations, perhaps. I rarely get asked stupid questions, generally sensible questions where the screens are unclear. At most locations, I am able to answer them, but at times have to refer the customer to another...

    Psychometric test

You're very welcome. As I suggested above, the Group Bourdon is probably the one that you wish to practise the most. Good luck!

    Psychometric test

It's a weird order, but yes, nice that you have more time to prep. However, they did make it clear that we still had to the MMI to come.

    Psychometric test

No, unusually, at my TOC, psychometric testing was done on one day excluding MMI. If you satisfactorily passed those, you went through to DMI. If you satisfactorily passed DMI, you went on to MMI. However, I am aware that this is unlike most other TOCs.

    Psychometric test

Thanks. Actually, I wrote it about 2 years ago and have copied and pasted it several times onto various threads when I've seen this question asked! :)

    Class 450+458 together

They can mechanically-only couple with each other, but they are unable to electrically couple. This means that this method of working is only permitted in emergencies, passengers would need to be detrained at the earliest opportunity, and the driver of this formation would not be permitted to...

    Psychometric test

I attended an assessment day with a TOC which accepts national standards. I understand that many TOCs have around 20-25 people taking the tests on that day. The TOC which assessed me, however, assesses fewer people at once (8 were due to attend but only 5 did). Of the 5 who attended, two...

How Often Does a Driver Forget to Stop at a Station and What Are the Consequences?

I did that a few weeks ago! I had a little 4-car train (when I almost always drive 8- or 10-car trains) and I came into a station with a red signal at the end. I was focused on the red signal (which changed to single yellow on approach) and came to a nice stop at the 8-10 car mark, when I...

GWR Reading Station shift patterns and routes 2021

Hi, I sympathise with your situation, and finding a way forward would be for you and your husband to work out, but I just wanted to add a couple of points. TOCs usually require new employees to live within 45 or 60 minutes commute of depot, and this is complained about by many potential...
