on the 180s at least they always leave half of coach b unreserved. i tried to reserve seats in advance both ways and was told that all reserveable seats were already booked
I was on the 1918 northbound from London on Thursday and the 1434 southbound from Eaglescliffe yesterday, both were fully reserved, and had nearly all seats taken between London & York
just noticed a couple of things with the new fares
all single & return fares on london - sunderland route are up £4 single /£8 return, which is over 10% increase on the off-peak returns
senior discount is reduced from 50% to 25%, which presumably makes it cheaper to hold a senior railcard...
Apologies, I was referring to the route restriction of the Holyhead tickets, which is probably more relevant in that case as it likely dictates which ferry operator gets the revenue.
The tickets are routed either Stena Line or Irish Ferries, and this must be specified at purchase (when the accompanying compulsory ferry reservation is made), i.e. a ticket routed Stena Line is not valid on Irish Ferries (or vice versa).
I was on this train yesterday from Eaglescliffe. It was one of the Class 180s and every seat in standard appeared to be reserved, apart from half of coach B. There were already people standing from Thirsk, and from York it was packed, with people standing right the way down the coach I was on...
I'm going to Ireland at the weekend via Virgin & the ferry from Holyhead. When i come back on the sunday, is the £29 economy single ticket valid for a weekend first upgrade on the chester-euston leg?
