Overall I'm a fan of the HST+Mk3 stock, but I wouldn't say they were in "Perfectly Good" condition.
If they were we wouldn't be running this far behind schedule on delivery of refurbished sets would we?
It can't be far away from it's first passenger service run though?
I recall SR twitter saying it would be running in a "few weeks" and that was end of August
I will agree that Luggage space is poor and (in the winter) the 1/3 - 2/3 doors is less than ideal, but overall I don't think the 170 is a bad set.
What would have been nice would have been a 4/5 car 170 set to relieve overcrowding and possibly introduce more luggage areas. but this is purely...
I know exactly what you mean, I had the misfortune of a 185 TPE from Manchester Airport to Glasgow in the summer after an 11 hour flight.
It was awful and if that was what SR were running daily on InterCity then I do think the HST + Mk3 would be a huge step up. As it stands though I can't say...
I find it amazing that electrification all the way to Aberdeen isn't on the table .
It seems perfectly logical to me as it would allow ScotRail to run electric Aberdeen-Edinburgh/Dundee/Glasgow and allow LNER to streamline their fleet greatly
Seems daft to me that LNER have to run a diesel...
Correct me if I'm wrong here, but woudn't the contingency just be continued use of Turbostars and Sprinters?
Delay the cascade to Northern and keep the 170's working along as is now. At the end of the day they are not bad units and have served that line well for the last few years.
I go...
The 1741 certainly can't be as I'm booked in carriage B. Surely a single 158 will be packed to the brim on an intercity service like Edinburgh to Aberdeen? and if not, a 4/5 car HST will be like a ghost town on that service.
Didn't realise RTT had that quirk.
A 170 was what I was expecting to be honest, never seen anything else run that route as a SR service.
Ideally I would have got a LNER HST with cheap 1st upgrade but the times didn't fit
So with the first ScotRail HST rakes now arrived at Craigentinny are we any closer to having a date/time for the first passenger service? I think I'm being a bit optimistic to hope for a HST on my trip from Edinburgh to Aberdeen this weekend
Surely training must be coming to an end/already...
