I don't think "normal" passengers know that first will always be A - but i agree it would be quite simple to display "Coach A at the (Front/Rear) of this service" or something similar on a departure board
and once we start moving to 2+5 and 2+6 sets it would be nice to know that Coach A will always be at the same end, makes it easier for reserved seating
Could even install markers on the platforms to indicate which end Coach A/D will be at to reduce dwell times
Scotsman article, so take with pinch of salt
Usual warning of contract stripping etc, but an interesting paragraph about half way down:
Only some ten of the 26 trains have arrived, and only two of these have been refurbished, because of delays by US-owned refitter Wabtec
Has there been a...
I would think that is true given how a lot of the Edinburgh-Aberdeen cancellations were going down on Sunday and Monday.
Leaving aberdeen fine, replaced by a bus from Perth on the Southbound
Leaving Edinburgh, replaced by a bus from Dundee on the Northbound
SR site had the reason being crew...
4L at Arbroath, 8L at Dundee and slipping .

I am well aware of the temporary nature of the interior and understand it will be be replaced by something better (hopefully) soon
The 2006 Aberdeen to Edinburgh today had a breeze due to some of the saloon to vestibule doors being stuck either...
Currently on a "classic" HST to Edinburgh, not terrible layout but I have to say the slam doors are adding to dwell time and the carriage is bloody cold!
I have been up and down closing droplights but there is still a noticeable breeze In the carriage, hopefullt this will be addressed by the...
I've got a Aderdeen to Waverly booked on Sunday evening and now I'm starting to worry about whether or not SR will be suffering cancellations as result of the new timetable.
At least there is the late XC service to fall back on, but I'd rather have an HST or 170 over a voyager.
With the new...
Is that because staff have been taken from their regular duties to do HST Training?
If so, why have they left it so late to train the second guys up, they have known about the timetable change for weeks.
I know it's not really on topic, but a 156 was working to North Berwick on the 24th of November, I got it home after the rugby .
Nice big and (mostly) empty 7 car 385 on the way in, crammed into a 2 car 156 on the way back
ScotRail have just uploaded a video to their Facebook page about Classic HSTs and what to expect on them
The captions states that "some features may be different to what you have come to expect" - Translation: the lighting and set layouts are rubbish
They have also put up a site about them...
Perceived increase in quality is all well and good, but passengers won't be impressed with a nice train that breaks down all the time.
I think the fundamental decider on whether or not the HSTs are a success will be relability .
Regarding the USB in standard, I can't help but think the decision was due to the fragility of USB
All it takes is people trying to force in a plug the wrong way round to damage to the centre insert then it's now useless.
Don't have that issue with a 3 pin plug.
I know that with the Jet727...
I'd suspect the former as the same is happening at the depot north of Glasgow Queen Street (can't remember name)
2 x 4 Car Slam Door HST's sitting there too,
I've just left Queen Street, heading for Edinburgh, as soon as you come out the tunnels there are 2x 2+4 HSTs at the depot .
Pair of SR Power Cars on each but both had 4 dark green, slam door coaches.
No GWR branding but still in dark green colours.
So I'd assume the answer is yes .
EDIT...
So far it seems to be a successful first week for the refurb set (touch wood)
Do we have any timings for it at the weekend. got a trip up to Aberdeen and may well take the HST
Does anyone know what time a HST will be leaving Edinburgh tonight?
I need to get to Kirckaldy this evening and may change my plans and get a connection just to try out the HST
Very good to finally see the interior in some details, especially now it has the "right type" of carpet.
Leg room looks great, as it usually is for SR.
I often get the last train home from Aberdeen to Edinburgh on a Sunday with is a XC Voyager with awful legroom and not enough table seats...
